Re: Copenhagen Fall Out!!
To set out my stall at the outset, I'm on Sam's side (to be honest, I normally am).
I don't buy the "if the US/China don't do enough then why bother" argument. There will always be crime, vandalism and fly-tipping, so why doesn't everyone just steal a van, use it to drive your old fridge to the local fly-tipping hotspot and drive-by shoot someone on the way there? Perhaps because sometimes the right thing is simply the right thing. You cannot usually control the actions of others, but you certainly can control your own.
If we all had a little more respect for each other, we may also have a little more respect for the planet, for all the different and magnificent animals who live here and for future generations. Net result: a happier place to live and happier lives to live. Sound corny? Yeah, probably. But I believe it to be true, cheesy or otherwise.
Would you rather inherit a fucked up banking system or a fucked up planet?

I don't see how you can point to a few days of cold weather and compare it to 200 years of rising average temperatures............worldwide. Did you read the articles I linked to before posting that?
so yes global warming is happening but forget trying to stop it just be ready for it,
I'm glad you're accepting what's happening. But are you really sure you know what global warming could mean? I'm talking about mass deserts where there were once rain forests, permanent seas where there were coastal cities and towns; 4 billion people either killed or displaced; 4 billion people moving into the then subtropical northern hemisphere, taking up land we currently use to grow crops. How will we feed them all?
If the Greenland icecap goes we're probably heading to become a planet with no life; it will be venus-like and hospitable to anything bar some bacteria. You can't 'manage' that, nor change your mind and stop it once it gets past a certain point. And all for what? So you don't have be inconvenienced by changing your lifestyle a little?

Cheers, afuk. You make some good points.
Can you believe that you have to assume caring is corny? It shouldn't be.

Re: have to agree another pointless talkfest
Trouble is those that should have been setting the example back when Kyoto convened have done the exact opposite
China(classed as a developing nation back then)& the USA(unilateralist attitude)both avoided it at the highest levels
The results are pretty disastrous....China at present is building 2 new coal fired power stations every week...its using car emissions technology in its cars which wouldnt pass emissions tests in the west
From what i can see the alternative energy industry has been held at bay by the self interest groups and their lobbyists in Washington through buying politicians
Australia - the biggest polluters per capita in the World actually came away with an agreement from kyoto to increase emissions by 15%
beggars dis-belief
Now these same countries under different leadership expect the world to enter into a binding agreement
About the only shining light that I can recall out of the USA is California
5/6th biggest economy in the world.I guess the power blackouts of a few years ago really hit home
Its in everybodies interest to reduce pollution and live sustainably but unfortunately that ugly word money seems to be the sticking point AGAIN
