Next Labour leader will be?

Post by max_tranmere »

In 4 or 5 months time, when Etonian Dave is handed the keys to no.10, Gordon The Ego is likely to resign as Labour leader. This is standard practice when a party loses heavily. I am trying to think who the next leader will be. Possibly Alan Johnson, maybe Harriet Harman. Who do people think it should be, and who do you think will be appealing for the public?

It is almost a shame really that the Labour Party, which spent nearly 20 years trying to make itself electable, and suceeded with Tony Blair, will have been ruined all because Gordon The Ego saw his career advancement as being the only thing that mattered. His will have been one of the briefest Prime Minister-ships ever and the party will be in tatters. I hope it was worth it Gordon!

It is a question that most of us are asking but believe it or not their are some who think the party will not lose heavily and even some who think Green Dave will be seen for what he is and that he and the rest of the whoops-a-daisy clan won't get in.

I am not one, there is more chance of me shagging Lolly Badcock while eating Rebekha Dee's pussy, as there is the Tories not winning the next election but the ones with their heads in the sand are, unfortunately, very much still running the ship.

We are getting emails from HQ stating success in safe seats like Glasgow means we can win when 'WE' get our arses out on the street and campaign against the others.

A lot of that is bollocks because you can't reach everyone and often get told to fuck off when you try but when you do and show what is going on and not just what the media say is going on, it does actually work.

The trouble is the conversion HQ claims will happen can't be done on the scale they believe it can or will be, unless a 'Grayling' opens their mouth again before the election.

The worse thing that Brown has done, just to further ensure their will be a huge loss, is to agree to the live TV debate, something Cameron and Clegg are pushing because they know as presenters they are are much better than the PM.

Brown can wipe the floor with them, like most who actually look at what both come up with for policy but the media lead direction / presentation will make him look 2nd best if not 3rd.

Telly and the papers dictate how a lot vote and seeing Brown stumble on words, even when giving 'the facts' that prove Tory failure, just make folks cringe and if they do vote they won't vote for 'him'.

That sadly means a huge loss and that loss will equate to the party going for a 'presenter politician' which, god help us, could even be a Milliband.

It won't be Harmon, could be Alan Johnson but I very much expect it to be a clone of Cameron in the same way that Cameron is a clone of Tony B.

You should Dave, especially if it's Ms Harmon. At the moment when she makes her rants she is politely told to fuck off.

If she becomes leader, even the opposition leader, she will have far greater say and influence on 'sex industry' policy.

I have a funny feeling that Andy Burnham, if he still has a seat after the election, could well become leader.

Don't know about his policies or what he stands for but, as randyandy has correctly predicted, whoever becomes leader next will need to have good presentation skills and look good on telly. Burnham is smooth and telegenic, and that's all that seems to matter these days in politics.

Yes, Harman would be absolutely disastrous if she was elected (which she never will be). Lapdancing clubs would all be closed down, and I really wouldn't be too surprised to see porn criminalised.

Andy, some interesting points there. The thought of David Milliband did not cross my mind when I originally posted this, but now you say his name it is obvious he will be a contender. I actually think he has that appealling quality like Blair did originally. Brown is probably the most unappealing senior politician since Norman Lamont. You look at him and think 'how the hell did you get into a senior position of power'?

Also the fact Brown is a Scot will be unappealling to many people in England - something that would not have been an issue for me years ago, but now is to a certain extent because everyone running Soctland has to be a Scot, every councillor up there has to be a Scot, the speaker of the Hollyrood parliament has to be a Scot, yet anyone can run England. This is not a level-playing field.

Alan the postman. There is film of him outside 10 Downing Street, when John Major was PM, handing in a petition on behalf of the Postalworkers Union. I dont think Alan Johnson really has that panash that is required to be a party leader, he looks more like the piano player in a Squeeze cover band. All he needs is a porkpie hat!

Another nod for Johnson.

Charisma vacuum Miliband doesn't cut it, and Burnham gives the impression human cloning has already started.

"Let's do it..."
