Statistics and all that
I note that although the list in the Daily Mail appears to be Europe wide, its dominated by London hotels. Why the fuck do people go to London, I wonder???
Statistics, damn statistics.

"Following the European City Reputation Ranking, the online price comparison site trivago has analysed the most popular beach destinations for the first time. In the ranking the 50 most popular European beach destinations in 2009 were investigated. The analysis took into consideration over 380,000 hotel reviews for more than 4,000 hotels. Spain is the most popular European holiday destination with 15 cities in the Ranking, Italy has eleven cities, and France and Turkey both have five beach destinations. In the United Kingdom, Blackpool is the only town to make the top 50 with an average rating of 75.76 and is currently ranked 20, ahead of many popular Southern European hotspots. "
I include a link to the Blackpool Tourism site for those wishing to plan an exciting, interesting holiday.

You are just too late for the Pigeon Fanciers show, Mrmcfister, the biggest show of its kind in Europe, but if you get cracking you should be able to make it to Showzam, the festival of circus, magic and new variety in mid Feb.
Enjoy!

Thanks for your little travelogue, Peter. Most informative.
Could I suggest your next travelogue entry might be "Ten exciting things to do in Stevenage"? Or alternatively "Slough, mon amour"?

Well damned if you do, damned if you dont.
Mrmcfister points out the Grosvenor Hotel in Blackpool came top of a list of crap hotels and suggested there was a connection with the number of scrubbers in Blackpool.
I mention that Blackpool was the only place in Britain to get a mention in the Top 50 European beach holiday locations in terms of the high scoring hotel reviews and Nasty argues its because of all the scrubbers.
Now if all the scrubbers give the hotels high marks, how come the Grosvenor...... you know what I mean.
Anyway whats wrong with kiss me quick scrubbers. I sometimes think this forum has more in keeping with your local WI rather than a porn forum.

Peter,
"But yep, the rest of the place has nothing to offer. My visit to Blackpool involves

But look at this. 100,000 people turned up for the Blackpool Airshow
http://blackpoolcam.co.uk/2009/08/10/bl ... -pictures/
And Blackpool Zoo had its busiest year ever in 2009. And there were loads of different events from an outdoor Dance Festival through to indoor dance fest, Junior World Volleyball Championships on the prom, World Firework Championships, Magic Festivals, Burlesque shows and the Ukelele Festival which was patronised on a regular basis by George Harrison, may he RIP. And did you not see Peter Kay, praising the Opera House stage in Blackpool duing the Royal Command Performance as the biggest stage in Europe?
Van Morrison, the Prodigy, Radiohead, the White Stripes. They've all done their thing there.
And what about all the people who turn up at the Tower, the Piers and the Grand Theatre, those Victorian jewels.
They cant have all forgotten to turn right to get to the Pleasure Beach and turned left by mistake, ending up somewhere else that destroyed their holiday?
And did I mention that its only an hour from the centre of Manchester and Lake Windmere if you want a bit of a change?
I'd book a long holiday in Blackpool this summer whilst accommodation is still available!!!
