Something on the lines of "So when the ice retreated northwards, Nick, where do you think the people came from? Yes, that's correct, Nick, the south".

I would be quick to use the race card too if I felt someone put me at a disadvantage for some bullshit reason.

Maybe this gentlmen is right. Maybe he is wrong. I'm black and I dont even know the answer to his problem so what makes you so sure why he shouldnt pull the race card?

Just because we live in a scoiety that appears to be tolerant doesnt necessarily mean that everyone plays by the books and has no prejudice.

I remember that line from QT but did think it was a cheap shot from Greer. I'm no fan of Nick Griffin but he did make me think about what we call 'indigenous'. We feel comfortable using the term when talking about Australian and North/South American aboriginal tribes, and, like us, they have the same African descendants.

Us Brits are a mish-mash of Celtic and Anglo-Saxon heritage and so for most of the white population of these isles the majority of our ancestry goes back some 1600+ years from north-western Europe. How far back does one go before it is justifiable to call yourself indigenous to a part of the world?; 2000, 10,000 or 25,000 years?

Not that Griffin's point excuses his views or changes my opinion of the BNP; I just see that maybe we're more comfortable using the 'indigenous' term when the people labelled have any colour skin other than white. Humans have moved around the world for a while now and people settled in Europe 15-25,000 years before the now American Indian tribes crossed over the Bering Strait, so if we're just looking at this using time then Eurasian populations may have more justification to label themselves 'indigenous (to Europe at least) than North/South American Indians.

Like 'race' is 'indigenous' a stupid term no matter what colour or ethnicity you're discussing? If it's a justified term then maybe Griffin did have a point when he said 'no one would dare slate an Aborigine for calling himself indigenous'. I just don't like the inconsistency because it gives the racists ammunition to fire at us 'do-gooders' and 'muesli-munching, beret'wearing, hand-wringing liberals'.

My answer to MP3 should have been..Try being black for a day then you will understand why some people pull that race card.

Sure some pull it in th emost ridiculous circumstances which makes it laughable for example: A black friend of mine was standing on a High Street surrounded by some other black friends of varied shades talking and gesticualting wildly as us black folk tend too (coz we iz expressive like dat, ya feel me?)

So old bill pull over in the jam jar steps to him on the kerb and requests a search. His first response was: Its coz Im black innit? babylon wan com test me and all that blah

I had to laugh especially when the officer looked down quietly and said: "Yes sir its because you are black"

Truth of the matter is, we know there are hoodlums who look like us in the area and the point is how is a white man who cannot differentiate what one black man looks like from another going to tell the difference between a man with a packet of Rizlas and tobbacco in his pocket from one carrying a machete or a gatling gun?

We got searched. They found nothing and went about their merry way. Simple as.
