Operation Moshtarak, will it work?

Post by jimslip »

I noticed today the overall head of the British Army, Col Richard Kemp, announced that the NATO forces had caught the the Taliban, "On the hop" and they had found, "Little resistance".

Does anyone find these assertions over optimistic, or does this operation really spell the end for the Taliban?

Storyville: The Most Dangerous Man in America - BBC 4. 10.00pm - 11.30pm
New. Documentary about leading Vietnam War strategist Daniel Ellsberg, who in 1971 concluded the war was based on decades of lies, and leaked 7,000 pages of top-secret documents to the New York Times.

This is a review of a programme which is on BBC 4 on Monday. Any public statements about Operation Moshtarak will be 'one-eyed' and as such to be treated with scepticism.

This operation has been publicised well in advance to make sure the Taliban knew it was coming but i doubt that they are beaten, they will just wait for the allies to withdrawl and then reamerge.

It's the only crop that will grow in the soil; take this away from them and the only other way of surviving is joining up with fundamental bandits that promise to feed them.

We must find ways where heroin can be used legally, in modern medicine (it is already) and give the Afghans a chance of making a living from producing such a commodity.

I was under the impresssion that the Taliban farmed the poppy fields in between laying IED's and lobbing mortar shells at our guys.

One observer today said the Taliban would return to farming while Operation Moshtarak was going and simply return to their normal terrorist activities as soon as things calm down.

BTW I don't think we should be there at all, it's all part of dummy George W and idiot Blair and their crazed Neo Con Yankee warmonger puppeteers, attempt to keep the World at war and make loads of cash.

I personally think a law should be passed banning ALL politicians attending any service or remembrance event for fallen soldiers. It makes me vomit seeing the likes of Brown or Blair shedding crocodile tears for our troops casualties.

The guy I saw was Maj Gen Nick Carter, rather than Richard Kemp(who is retired).I agree that 'caught on the hop' was not a good expression, given the ammount of warning that the Taliban have been given,of this operation.
