Re: Respect your elders
Briliant video. Sums up a lot of what ive been trying to say about being black, misunderstanding and racism and how black people still have a knee jerk reaction to being mad ea mug of.
watching that scene unfold I can bet most people are laughing at the fact the old white guy kicked the young black guys ass. I can see why people say the guy had it coming to him for not letting it go by persuing the old white guy to the front of the bus but the bit I caught at the beginning was about the cleaning shoes.
Anyone seen Goodfellas? Remember how Tommy (Joe Pesci) responded when told to "Go get your fuckin shine box!"
People should remember here that no black man even wants to be told by any white man about cleaning shoes. Thats a racist comment in itself alluding to their glory days when the profesional white man would have his shoes cleaned is definitely offensive and suggests racism.
Even for a joke.
The way I see it, why provoke the man with a comment like that in the first place?
That video seemes to be the result of that. If the black guy was an outright thug trying it on with the old guy for being white or old I would be giggling my arse off right now but its interesting to see that people see what they want to see in that and fixate on the white guy busting the black guys nose.
So I ask you this, is your view on this based on race, age or for what it is because I see a guy who was provoked and if this was the other way round (young white guy versus old black man) I'd still have the same view.

He's not a doddering old man. He's in his 50s and looks to be at least 15st.

Mistaken or not why bring shoe-shining up at all.....to a black guy? Especially in America and being 60+ years old he must know how that comes across.
On the flip side, the black girl calling the old guy 'pinky' and screaming 'beat his white ass' while thumping the bus seat is just as bad.

For the white man to remark that the black man should shine his shoes is indeed racist and would obviously cause confrontation.
By asking for a shoe-shine, he is basically casting the black man in the role as a servant; obviously inciting conflict.
However the situation actually that took place is slightly different.
The African-American man protested that Thomas Bruno's feet were too close to his rolling suitcase by saying "Why a f*ckin brother got to spit shine your shoes?"
The African-American man instigated talk of shoe shining.
The correct situation would have been for Thomas Bruno to apologise and to walk to the front of the bus. He should not of said "Im 67 years old you ain't scarin me! You ain't scarin me! You ain't scarin me! You ain't scarin this white boy!"
When Bruno was told that he would have "a foot stuck up his ass" he made the mistake of saying "Oh no you wont! No you wont!"
But the video is a hot topic because of the fact that Bruno did not do the correct thing. He made the mistake of showing no fear. He made the mistake of striking the person that struck him.
CBS News reported the incident as "Racially Tinged Provocation".
The following video was removed from the CBS website following a public backlash. Many have questioned the reporters impartiality since he did not question Iyanna Washington about the "theft" of the bag, or her screaming of racial slurs and incitements to violence. No mention was made of Ms Washington saying "Say it again pinky. Beat his white ass!Whoop his ass!"
The removed video can now be seen here.

There are comments remaining on the CBS site criticising the reporting of the incident, although the original interview has been replaced

Re: Respect your elders
Here is another, less well known, recorded incident on the AC Transit.
Another young person threatening a senior citizen.
Another young person threatening to press charges after they have been humiliated.
Lots of racist language:
