Car Salesmen - Cretins

Once in a blue moon I have the readies to change my car. My current chariot, a Corsa is a bit small for my needs and shite on long journeys. So off to my local dealers we go and after insulting me with a pittance of a trade in offer he does his fucking damndest to sell me Punto or Clio with the same size of engine and room as my current machine. I was looking at Meganes, Focus etc and this twunt keeps trying to flog me another small car. Needless to say he got no business.

Most car sales people are just "box shifters" and know little about cars.

I remember many years ago taking a test drive in a car, and asked the salesman if the it was front wheel drive or rear wheel drive and he said "I have no idea".

Imagine the nightmare of, having bought something off them,then having to get any faults rectified....Nightmare-if you dont get a good service,that tells you everything you need know and is best avoided.....You should write to the MD complaining..Drop him an email asking if he can recommend a good dealer"s!wink!

Well Rodders ,that a sweeping point of view! I buy my cars from mercedes-and have never had the kind of trouble decribed in this thread.This also goes for A Class and Smart cars too!

Sorry Birty but neither an A class or Smart are real Mercs, they are niche products and as Mr Lequement of Renault said when the A class was launched "get out of our market segment!!".

Remember years ago having a test run in a Escort. The radio was taken out for security purposes! But the salesman sitting next to me touch the live wires from the radio and sent the car up in flames, the firemen had to be called. Then he had the cheek to ask me not to tell his boss what had happened, needless to say I didn't buy the car.
But i noticed a couple of weeks later passing the same garage the car was back on the forecourt on sale again.

Yes, belfast_birty, it is a sweeping statement but one made from past experience.
I am an engineer and come across many types of salesmen in all walks of life, and I still say that if they were any good they would be doing something else.

I also buy Mercedes and the last two I have bought privately as Merc owners are a different type as they know a whole lot more about the marque than any car salesman. Want to know something about Mercs? Ask an owner.
