As a Mac user, you'd think I'd love the iPhone, but sadly I don't.

Recently I was able to upgrade from my BlackBerry 9000 to an iPhone 3GS. The iPhone was on it's way back to Orange after only 3 or so days use, and I'm back to using my BlackBerry (which sadly won't sync properly with my Macs... the reason I upgraded to the iPhone in the first place).

Why the dislike of the iPhone? For all its glitz, it's basically an expensive gimmick. The battery life on my 3GS was appalling... a few calls, a few texts sent and a quick check of Google maps to see where I was saw the battery go from 100% to 60% in the matter of less than half an hour. A quick look on all the other forums dealing with iPhones shows I'm not the only one to have this problem. It seems the batteries in iPhones need constant recharging. As someone on the move constantly I need a phone that will hold a charge for more than half a day as I won't always be in my office or in my car.

The other major problem if you are a business user is the inability to send texts to a group. You have to add each person to the "To:" box. When you have several groups made up of 100+ people (in my case some groups have over 300 members) that is a real pain... indeed I never even attempted it, so for all I know you may be restricted to the number of people you can add to the "To:" box.

Other gripes include the poor blue tooth connectivity... even with my phone in my top pocket only inches away from my headset I kept getting missed calls (going straight to voicemail), and for me a missed call can be a missed job, and a missed job is a lost earning opportunity.

If you're young and using your phone as a social networking tool (great with Facebook, You Tube etc), camera, and status symbol I dare say the iPhone is brilliant. If you're using your phone as a business tool, it has such major flaws as to make it totally unusable.

Hope this helps.

Blackberry far more reliable,IMHO.I had an iPhone which kept on closing down/rebooting.Blackberry fine as a phone and for push e-mail.Also fine for surfing the net, although surfing is very expensive while abroad.
