Cameron's pride

Post by Sam Slater »

A frightening piece from the Independent:

Even some of you right-wingers wouldn't have the gall to deny a young girl, 8 months pregnant, shelter for the night, would you?

And to close homeless shelters because they 'attract undesirables'! Who did they think they'd attract?

Dont get fooled into thinking thats the norm because a tory rag says so. There will ALWAYS be people who play the system, why should people who really need help suffer just because you want to clamp down on those miling it,who are in the minority.

YES. YES I DO! Families like that can be brought to justice. No one's in immediate danger. How can you think that someone screwing the benefits system is more immoral than turning away a frightened, 8 month pregnant, girl with nowhere to go? How can you think that closing homeless shelters is trivial compared to a family of cheats getting away with being lazy? How can you think it's ok to remove local council estate kids from their nearby park to let in Polo players from the other side of town but feel more angry about an alcoholic (maybe mentally ill) father who isn't willing to kick the habit?

That's crazy, imho. That's like complaining that the birds sing too loudly in a morning while ignoring your neighbour who's kicked his last 3 dogs to death this past year.

Have you ever heard anything so stupid as to turn away a homeless person from a homeless shelter because they can't prove they're homeless?! Who the fuck would want to sneak into a homeless shelter for the night if they had a place to go? That girl could have been mugged, beaten and raped while spending those four nights in the park - maybe killing the unborn child, herself, or both of them..........and for what? Some silly Tory council, right-wing, immoral policy? I guess since she was a girl from the nearby council estate it didn't matter. She didn't have a 'dear daddikins' they knew from the Polo, or yachting club.

While it's deplorable that someone should be using the benefits system in this way, the amounts are as nothing compared to the money lost to the treasury by the use of tax avoidance schemes by rich individuals and large companies and multi-nationals.

You could take every benefit cheat and the money they "stole" would probably be less than the amount a company like Tesco saved in tax through offshore accounts and other tax avoidance schemes.

Maybe if all these Tory supporting businesses and businessmen paid what they owed in taxes, we wouldn't have such a large national debt! Maybe Viscount Rothermere (who owns the Daily Mail) would like to start the ball rolling by paying some taxes in this country instead of hiding behind his Non-Dom status!

Had to laugh last night when i see Cameron electioneering in a chip shop. Probably the first chippy he has ever been in and will probably be the last. Tory toffs like him dont slum it in chip shops, they leave that for the lower orders.
