Why Brown bombed

Post by David Johnson »

To state the obvious again

1.Only twice in 200 years has a political party won 4 elections in a row.
2. The Iraq war was a total disaster for the labour party and the war in Afghanistan is very unpopular
3. THe country has recently been in the worst recession since the 1930's.
4. Brown was never elected Prime Minister and in a televisual age is not what you would call the most charismatic performer!
5. MPs were engulfed in the expenses scandal.

The only really surprising thing is that the Labour party weren't wiped out totally.

Anyway if Labour can do a deal with the Lib Dems and a few "others" to secure an overall majority this seems to be the way to go to keep the Vandal party from the gates.

The Vandals won't do a deal and will form a minority Government which will last 18 months at most before another election is called. Meanwhile the savage cuts they implement will ensure that the Vandals are the ones wiped out. Labour return to power under a new leader (Johnson? Milliband? Balls?). Clegg comes third again and loses his own seat thereby avoiding the need to sack him as a failed leader. Vandals ally themselves to both UKIP and BNP to form "New Tory" thereby rendering themselves forever unelectable.

OK, OK... I started off sensibly and then just delved deeper into the realms of fantasy, but you never know!
Clegg comes third again and loses his own seat thereby avoiding the need to sack him as a failed leader.
Clegg gained vote share by 6.9% in his constituency and he already had a healthy lead. All of Sheffield saw a 7-11% swing from Labour to Lib Dem. Labour only stayed in because it's their heartland, traditionally.

Ok, in the spirit of fantasy, Johnson becomes leader and brings in SIngleton as Chancellor of the Exchequer and Slater as Business Leader.

SIngleton introduces a far ranging utility, bank and communication infrastructure nationalisation without compensation. Thatcher is arrested and jailed with Blair in the next door cell while he awaits trial in the Hague.

Slater introduces massive regeneration programme centred on SHeffield largely funded by those with expensive houses.

Clegg is arrested due to dodgy expense dealings (allegedly) in Brussels.

We all live happy ever after.

The only fantastical part of this scenario is the regeneration of Sheffield... the rest seems quite sensible to me.

Talking of Clegg: You'll not be wanting Brown to make any deals with such a hypocrite, would you?
