How Did Alex Salmon Do
Re: How Did Alex Salmon Do
I have several Scotish friends living here in Sussex and not one of them has a decent word to say about Salmond.
I have always thought that he was on a par with that other odious little self seeking creep Galloway, who has just had the kick in the balls he so justly deserves.

Not as well as he expected to do. He had hoped to win some new seats. But hey I suspect that applies to just about every party apart from the Greens.
Maybe Alex Salmond's statement prior to the banking collapse, that Iceland and Ireland were two very good examples of how from an economic point of view, small countries could prosper, didnt go down too well.
Cheers

He did really well. Stood down and got a cool ?60,000. I heard it was tax free. I could do with ?60,000 tax free.
However in the election in Scotland his party aimed for 20 seats got 6 and lost the By Election Seats that they had won in the last three years.
For some reason Scotland went Labour again. I hate to say but if you put a Donkey up in most of Scotland they would still vote labour.
Also did really well in the banking fiasco. At one time he was head economist the royal bank of scotland.
Funny how they announce 2000 redundancies just after the election. Think there is a connection.

He was never HEAD or chief economist at the RBS. Originally he was an oil and energy economist and the oil index he devised in the early 80s is still used to this day by various news media including the BBC. He stopped being AN economist for the bank in 1987, when he stood as an MP.
Let's see... 1987... that's over twenty years before the current recession started (helped by the banking system I agree). While I don't have much time for him, I don't think it fair of you to paint the picture you have of him doing really well out of the banking fiasco while erroneously claiming he was a chief economist for one of the major banks.
