David, most of the commentary today - across the internet, on TV, and in newspaper editorials - is in response to comments Ed Balls made on the BBC's Politics Show yesterday (Sunday). I've looked on YouTube but cant find it. It is bound to be on i-player so you could have a watch.

Please. People will always go where work is. There are plenty of girls from these very forums that will flit between London, Budapest and San Fernando Valley to carve out a living. Sam WAS talking about what your refer to as the "real world" in his references to all the tradesmen that went to work in Germany on the buildings etc. It appears that you chose to ignore that remark.
What about all the English people who go to work over in Spain in the holiday resorts? Should the owners of the businesses over there be "ashamed" of employing them? What about all the English people that have emigrated to Australia and New Zealand etc etc?

But the reason its a problem here is the handouts that they get... you don't get any benefits if you move to Australia, Canada etc. Even down in Spain if you have not paid your local stamp for long enough (their NI) you will not get any payment... and you certainly won't get any child trust fund!!
And yes you can go and work in Poland... but again you'll get sod all from their tax payers!!!!

Good luck to them if they're here to work but the cheap labour thing is a myth in my experience. I got on to a firm of Polish builders last year who also do decorating and the cunts quoted me ?1300 to do two rooms. All I wanted doing was the old paper stripping off and new paper hanging, which would have been a two day job at most. No painting required, nothing doing to the woodwork or ceilings.
When I recovered from the laughing fit brought on by the quote, the guy said he could knock some off if it was too much. His counter offer was ?100 lower.

This is the tired old cliche about Britain being benefit heaven. With single blokes living the life of a playboy on ?50+ a week.
I can't comment on benefits in Australia or Canada. What I do know is that when I worked in Denmark, there were many, many British people working there and the welfare state far exceeded that of Britain as does most mainland European countries in terms of benefits.
