Why should the rich pay more tax than the poor?

Forget tax, I dont get any concessions, tax credits or any damn thing! I pay through the arse for everything and in this age of skin flint producers pleading poverty and expecting models to work for free i dont even take advantage of that either.

As a tax payer its not about fair, it just makes sense that they would tax the rich/ financially better off harder. It would be very unfair to tax the poor so the rich can be even better off.

Wheres the sense in that?

I was going to answer this post earlier on but was waiting for the punchline to see if everyone else was going to come on here bleating about it being unfair.

No one likes paying tax but if we didnt this country would be in a bigger world of hurt and only until you know what it is like to live on the breadline will you respect that.

Governments just ratchet up the taxes until enough voters start turning against them. It must be difficult balancing what people want the Government to provide (just about everything) with what they're prepared to pay (nothing).

You have missed the point... as usual... the Swiss look after themselves... they welcome someone who wants to pay them ?14 million...

not like the UK... why you can't understand that its best to get something from someone who ain't going to cost your country anything than to dig yer silly heels in and not get a pound / franc... I realise the UK does that the opposite way...pay money to attract people that will cost the country.

Simple.... and also why not do this for high earners in your lovely UK... I think you need every penny you can get!

I will translate. I disagree with you.

To get back to the question "Why should the rich pay more tax than the poor" is because a society where there is not an enormous difference between rich and poor is much more likely to be a well balanced society where crime is relatively low compared to those societies where the rich have to live in gated communities with security guards to protect themselves from the downtrodden.

I can see no reason why the very well off should not pay more tax than the poor. These are the very people who tend to have different additional perks anyway like company cars, bonuses, shares etc.

The greedy money whores you talk about, pay large sums of money to advisers from the Banks that we, the taxpayer have bailed out in order to come up with ever more complex tax avoidance, tax evasion schemes which steals money from the UK exchequer.

These people are the moral criminals who would go into a UK kids cancer ward, steal the money out a kid's hand and say "You can't have this operation, I need it to help buy a house in Monte Carlo".

And the countries that make this easier like Switzerland are the pimps of this analogy. THe sooner they get stamped on the better.

Why dont we throw into the mix that the guy earning 100,000 does it by being a lawyer who makes his stacks of cash by representing the same scumbags repeatedly and only doing so because he/they can get oodles of legal aid.

He sounds a bigger parasite to me than somebody whos only crime is being poor.
