Lee Nelson

Is this the worst show ever on the Beeb? Who is this talentness cretin and who decided he was worth a show on his own?

He's just a rip off of Ali G. The footballer sketch can be quite funny. "I swear she told me she was 15". lol.

As dire as it gets, but then these days 'new comedy on BBC Three' is all the warning you need.

Who gave it the green light? A bunch of public school media tossers, presumably.

I've seen him year after year at the Edinburgh Festival - he's actually a very intelligent, astute and quick-witted comedian who thrives in the live stand up setting. And I am going to see him at this year's festival, too.

That said, he did tell a joke about something very close to the bone a few years back, which kinda knocked the stuffing out of me when I was at one of his gigs. I didn't really enjoy the rest of the show, given that particular joke (although I sat there silently - I didn't heckle or anything). However, even in that dark room he clocked me about 10 mins later and was not happy at all that I wasn't roaring with laughter.

Since then, rightly or wrongly, I've always thought of him under the "needing the endorsement of a room full of strangers" syndrome many claim is inherent to the make up of many comics.

What was the joke? Or what was it about?

I can see why you ask, but the joke itself is irrelevant and nothing is to be gained from relating the specifics of it here.

My point is that it didn't sit well with him that I didn't find it funny, and he later broke off from his set to tell me he noted I wasn't laughing much thereafter. He wasn't nasty with it, and I didn't really respond to him, but it clearly bothered him. I just found it a bit odd - and, rightly or wrongly - I took it to indicate he was a bit 'needy'.

Just an observation. As I've said above, he is funny, sharp and talented, IMHO.
