Will someone please point me in the right direction to download video clips of specified titles and to join up the component files etc. What is a suitable newsgroup reader to use ?
I have signed up to for newsgroup access to sex newsgroups as my ISP does not include access to them.
Using alibis.com, i can see component newsgroup header posts listed in Outlook Express. Pictures i can see immediately but movie clip posts just contain some garbled text which i understand i have to decode and join up all the component files. How do i do this ?

Re: O/T Getting video clips from newsgroups
Highlight all the parts of the movie (look in brackets at the right hand side of the subject for the number of parts) and then right click and select combine and decode and then click ok. When the download finishes it should show the complete movie however make sure none of the parts of the movie are missing (especially in very large movies).
Also for pic posts OE is not that good as it cant do YENC - I used Agent and it can decode YENC and it treats all the parts of a movie as one download. If it detects a missing part it also tells you before you download it so you dont waste your time.
Hope this helps

Thanks. I think i am getting the hang of this. But if you do a Combine and Decode on some video posts in OE, where is the resultant file stored ? I tried combining and decoding some files and at the end it just opened up the body of one of the original posts showing the original garbled text.

Re: O/T Getting video clips from newsgroups
The OE Help built into the news client gives you the basics on how to combine and decode most files in a newsgroup.
For large multipart binary files I would ditch OE though.
When I switched to broadband I tried out Xnews which is free and easy to use and handles all the combining and decoding of both UUE and yEnc automatically.

Look at Guba.com
It tells you all about codecs and if you subscribe it easily lists available videos with thumbnails as well

Re: O/T Getting video clips from newsgroups
the resultant file is opened in a new window - you can then chose to either view it or save it (or both!).
The only reason I can think of for still getting the garbled text is if a part of the download is missing. I am not gonn start having a pop at Microsoft etc but that is a major flaw in OE and thats why its better to use a different news reader for binaries.

Re: O/T Getting video clips from newsgroups
An easier way of selecting all parts of the file is to select the first part then scroll down to the last part and select the last part whilst holding down 'shift' + 'ctrl' then combine & decode as normal.

Re: O/T Getting video clips from newsgroups
yeah but sometimes not all parts come through to the server and if its a big post there could be 200 parts and its very easy for one to be missing and you not realise it.
Thats the only reason why I stopped using OE for binaries but I still use it for text and discussion groups.

Re: O/T Getting video clips from newsgroups
As Jason says OE does'nt work with multiple binaries/YNC. I use X news which is free and seems to work quite well but I'm not sure if it's the best option
