Thanks Jim. Now with those money saving tips I've no excuse not to buy a subscription to your website.

Seems fitting to link to the above in this thread; a useful read and answers many of the questions/issues raised above.

Of course, I'd recommend buying it from your friendly, local independent bookstore...

Aldi wanted to open a store in my home town, but Sainsbury's (who've had a store there for a few years, plus another one about 4 miles down the road) somehow managed to get it blocked.

This of course being the very same Sainsbury's who opened their own store here despite there already being a Somerfield just a couple of hundred yards down the road.

Seems that Sainsbury's don't believe in the old maxim of "what's good for the goose". A set of greedy, monopolistic bastards if you ask me.

These bastards wield enormous power in our towns. In Eastbourne there is a beautiful little village Called Meads, just outside. In the high street there is a butcher, grocer etc etc. The main street can just about fit one car. Guess what? Tesco managed to force through planning consent to build a Tesco Metro right in the middle. I reckon they have teams of people who befriend the local councillors and over drinks and meals out, "strings are pulled" and "cogs are greased" as it were.........

Afraid tiz business nowadays - Had a friend that delt with tescos and they are animals try to get them set up as the sole purchaser from the supplier then beat you down. Not worth getting involved with as they will do what they can to make a profit and screw common decency. But Ill bet most folks just carry on regardless and go shopping there as they are cheap for a lot of things.

Jim hands off to you as you make good porn and well impressed with the darlings you get through your doors ! braw birds as they say up here.

In the town nearest to the Manse there's a Waitrose and a LIDL virtually side by side. Admittedly there's a difference in price ( and quality ) but if you shop carefully, not that great ( Waitrose's fab pizza @ ?2.60, a 60p supplement over the vacuum packed offerings next door )

BUT, Waitrose ( and Sainsburys, etc etc ) have hand baskets and staff on the checkouts! LIDL only have trolleys - and had one checkout open at 5pm on a Friday evening. If I'd started queueing there then I'd probably still be there now....

I'm vegetarian, not vegan! I get my B12 through dairy based products as well as from a vitamin supplement I take every day.

Thanks for your concern

Tesco are running their spend ?30 and get ?4 off promotion again via vouchers with your till receipt. Last time if you used the voucher you got another.

It says a lot about their profit margins if overall profitable to keep loosing ?4 per trolley even if some buy high profit lines to make their purchases up to ?30.
