Supermarket beef...

Post by mrmcfister »

Well her indoors cooked a roast tonight and the 'organic silverside from North Devon' purchased from Tesco was the worst bit of meat I have tasted in many a long year.Cooked medium rare it was virtually unchewable.Well I am going to the place we brought it and I will be taking it back to their customer services.I will tell them that it is 'well below the standard I would expect ' and I am going to ask for my money back.I am also going to ask them to compensate me for a ruined meal,a Rioja Gran Reserva that was drunk alone and her wasted effort.God only knows what mates would have thought if they'd come round.I am going to bid ?20 over the ?8 it cost me and with the extra I'll buy her a nice bunch of lillies.

Fucking supermarkets...anyone else here tried taking meat bacK?What do you reckon are my chances?Actually I will be taking it back Wednesday and I'll let forumites know the result.I am pissed off about this so I reckon there will be a scene if they fuck me off!

Will you have shat it out by then or will the meat be in its original, packed format?

I imagine Tescos will refund you for the meat, but that?s about it, I am interested to see what happens.

They'll probably claim you should have had it assessed by an independent expert biochemist before you cooked it.

And of course, they will claim you are the ONLY person to ever complain about it.

On a more serious note..

Setting aside my somewhat facetious, initial comment, you might find this feedback useful.

Unfortunately, this link is largely about meat that has gone off before the packaging dates.

You may struggle on the grounds that the meat was not off, but poor quality. Could depend on whether you are a regular customer or not.

Personally, I would be really surprised if you managed to get any compensation out of Tesco.

I was in Sainsburys a few years ago when an old guy went to the customer service desk clutching a reciept and the label from a fresh chicken, he asked for his money back because the chicken was minus its giblets and it stated on the label that they were included, when asked where the chicken was he said me and the misses ate it but i want my money back because there was no giblets, needless to say he had no joy.

Tesco "Fresh" produce of any kind is best avoided, fruit doesn't ripen, meat is dreadul, God knows where they source it, their only concern is how cheap they can get it!

Ha,went to customer service spoke to the manager and explained.Took meat container with me but had lost reciept.Got a ?10 voucher.Think if I'd have asked for ?20 like I was going to they would have given it me.Missis like's her lillies.Needless to say I won't be buying beef joint from them again.Like I say this beef was not just average it was the worst beef joint I've had totally uneatable but looked nice in the display.Trouble is where I live there's no good reliable butchers which is why Tesco can offer up this shit and get away with it (mostly).

Good for you. I think more people should complain about poor products that they get from supermarkets and shops in general.

Given it was organic meat, I assume that the ?10 voucher was more or less the original cost of the food? Tescos are not noted for giving you your money back and some compensation on top of this.

David,
Yea they offered me another joint,I declined!Joint was about ?8 so made a couple of quid but should have asked for more. The thing was the meal was ruined because of their crap joint. The manager was 'sorry about that' but there is probably a routine they go through.
