best one i heard was an old woman who went back to tescos with one of those bar-b-que blocks and complained to the girl on the checkout about the fact that she had been miss sold it when asked why the old girl said "well look at the cover on the top there is a chop and sauages , a chicken leg and a piece of lamb" and when i opened it there was just a mesh and charcoal! yes said the checkout girl / bemused now baring in mind this was one of those portable bar-b ques and was just a tin foil tray with charcoal and a cardboard lid on it the girl said where is your receipt which the woman gladly showed her to which the girl asked erm? excuse me but you bought three of these and only brought one back? yes said the woamn the others are in the freezer!!!

I've been using a local buthcer for ages now, meat is far superior. I recently got home late 1 night with not much in fridge and dashed out to tescos as an emergency and picked up some 'premium' finest sausages. After eating 2 I had to stop as i'd picked out no less than 20 bits of bone chips and gristle.

Needless to say I was reminded why i stopped using supermarket crap ages ago. Never again, next time i'll just eat toast

I used their "Finest" sausages for a dish a couple of weeks ago.
I threw it in the bin. I wouldn't even give them to the dog.

Unfortunately, due to the demands of the typical British work and lifestyle these days, people are left with little option but to shop in supermarkets, Tesco, in particular. They are the monster that has closed everybody down. However, I feel that the British public also have themselves to blame for the demise of the smaller, specialised butcher, fish and greengrocer shops. It's the public who demanded the supermarkets open 24 / 7, offered free bus rides, cheap petrol and free parking and God knows what else. These are things that the local shops cannot hope to compete against.

Supermarkets also buy everything as cheap as they can, which in turn, they pass onto the customer, despite the fact that a lot of it is crap.

In the 80s, I used to work for Dewhursts butchers (remember them)? These type of places used to be where people could stop and chat to each other, catch up on gossip and talk to the shop assistants. That just doesn't happen anymore. People are no longer interested in personal service.

I now live in Poland, and while they have supermarkets, including a Tesco, it's nice to see small, local shops still thriving and doing nicely for themselves. It's great just being able to walk to the end of my street here, and being able to get my bread, meat and groceries without having to fight through crowded aisles, standing ages at the checkout only to find it close just before it's your turn. They may be more expensive than the supermarkets, but the meat is far better, and I'm back in my flat within 5 minutes.
