Buskers

Post by Dick Moby »

I was in Aberdeen at the weekend and on a busy corner there was somebody playing the accordion. He was making a good job of it but he didn?t seem to be making much money. By his appearance I would have said he was Romanian or from that sort of area. A couple of streets away there was somebody playing the bagpipes (nationality unknown but presumed to be Scottish). I dropped a quid in his open case and I was surprised to see how much money was lying there. Was it simply a case of ?knowing the market?.
I always thought buskers played music your mother or granny would like (more chance of a donation perhaps) but now I hear buskers playing Led Zeppelin and that sort of thing i.e. music from my youth.

The busker with the accordian in Aberdeen is Afro-Mongolian and makes it well known that he doesn't like Scottish folk, hence not much money. He just does is to show up the octopus squeezers.

The buskers in our town are really middle class.

They wear ponchos and play fiddles, pan pipes, penny whistles etc. Tasteful semi-folk. You can buy their CDs off them.

A nice change from the usual off-key student fuckwit who thinks he's Bob Dylan of course, but I still wish they'd clear off.
