Mozilla Firefox 3.6.9

Post by Gerry Acktrich »

When it come to computers I am the ultimate idiot test. I downloaded Mozilla Firefox 3.6.9 to use as my browser and as a result my computer has slowed right down but before I un-install it again I wanted to ask if anyone was aware of a similar problem experienced by somebody else or does Firefox conflict with certain Windows programmes that I may be running.

Thanks.

Firefox is actually faster than Internet Exploder, and as far as I know there are no known conflicts with other applications.

I can't see how Firefox has slowed down your PC so much unless there's a memory leak in the new version.

Is your PC slow even when Firefox isn't running?

Thanks for the replies. Sam, what actually happened was that I was running on a older version of Firefox that was running fine but I kept being prompted to update to 3.6.9 which I did but since then my computer certainly does not respond as quick as before I downloaded the newer update.

If you keep having trouble with Firefox, try Opera. For me, Firefox started off great, but became crash and freeze prone with successive versions. Opera has been rock solid so far and has most features you'd want.

When you say 'my computer does not respond as quick as before' do you mean your operating system as a whole or just 'Firefox is slow'? Reason I ask is I had an old friend the other week who, like you, said he knows naff all about PCs. He complained his 'computer wasn't working'. When I got there his computer was fine and it was just his online browsing that was slow (due to a dodgy filter in the end). My mum's the same....always getting mixed up between 'computer' and 'the internet'. I can't see a firefox update slowing down your whole PC. If it did there would be many people complaining over the net and I can't find others having this issue.

If it is indeed just Firefox then try another browser. I recommend Google Chrome > . Try installing that and if everything's ok then maybe the update to Firefox didn't install properly, or you have some firefox extension that's not playing nice with the latest update (which means turning off each extension one by one until you find the culprit).

I'd still recommend Chrome regardless.

Thanks again for the replies. Sam I rarely use this computer for anything else other than browsing and I keep my main computer for my business work but it is certainly not loading the pages as quickly as before I upgraded to the 3.6.9 version. I am going to un-install it and try again. If it is still the same after that I will try another browser as you guys have suggested, Thanks again for your suggestions.

Before you uninstall firefox, try doing a bit of housekeeping. Ccleaner would be an excellent tool to start with.

There is a tutorial about how to install and use it HERE
