Re: Scaredy scaredy custards
Blimey was it really 28 years ago....!! As a fully paid up member of the 'been there, done that and got the t-shirt brigade' I Remember waiting on the large slab of concrete (known as the landing pad) when Jim's Chinook landed at Ajax bay - some of the first words out of his mouth were something along the lines of 'fucking hell, no wonder you blokes need a laugh' - he then helped unload his stuff and then very kindly helped hand out eagerly awaited mail from home cracking gags and even had time to chat with a few of us before doing the show - wish I could recall some of the gags, but I do remember he was fucking hilarious and the 'totty' he had with him weren't bad either......Honestly can't see some of todays 'Comedians' making that kind of effort somehow (not without personal hair stylist ,make up guru and lawyer in tow) .....whether you agree with his as then politics/sexist or racist points of view etc , he was funny and a welcome change to the daily routine. Respect to the guy for making the effort - More recently I remember seeing a series with Ross Kemp in Afghanistan , Yes he was well looked after I'm sure but regardless, still a bloody brave thing for someone 'not trained' to do IMO (even bigger balls on the cameraman....)

Lets not forget that certain celebs under contract may also be advised not to do things they may want to in case of insurance and completion bond conflicts.
I can't see Jim Davidson being affected unless he was on tour and being paid millions by a pormoter but Ricky sems to be doing more stuff with Hollywood these days and if they are putting millions into a movie they wouldnt want to see their star coming back in a box minus a head not having completed his contractual requirements.

As usual OEJ, a valid point.
(Some people might argue of course that RG coming back from anywhere minus his head would not necessarily be a bad thing..............!!!!!)
The troops on the ground have a right to be frightened,
As do comedians who've taken their life down a different path and haven't had the training or support to help deal with warfare.
and I understand it having heard bombs and bullets myself,
So you keep reminding us. Why don't you just put something in your signature or even change your username to 'Iwasinthearmyanddon'tyouforgetitson' so newer members can be aware of your past glories? Saves you having to keep repeating yourself.
I mean, really...going a few weeks without mentioning putting a bullet into someone's skull, strict disciplinary measures for some poor soul or t'other, or finding every opportunity to squeeze in a mention of squaddie life won't mean we'll all assume you've gone soft on us, and to wearing silk panties and crying to old Lassie films.
All the best, chuck.

None of his own efforts have made a cent, so it would hardly matter.
And at least we'd be spared more films as dire as Cemetary Junction.

Spot on Spanner, Ross Kemp did have fucking big balls going out with the boys and getting shot at. He wasn't there to entertain but to tell a story of unrelenting bravery that the boys and girls experience every hour of the day outside their locations.
Jim's still my favourite entertainer and anyone who isn't keen on his politics is just grumpy.

Dont you have to be 18 or older to be sent to a war zone? As I see it that makes them men and women not boys and girls.

Despite not sharing your obviously extensive service background, I'm perfectly aware that its an expression, RoddersUK. I was merely pointing out that if they are adults, then let them be referred to as adults, and not in an infantalised way as 'boys and girls.'
