Yup, I agree with that 100%, though people living in Blackpool are, of course, exceptionally blessed.

Given the proximity of the clubs, is there a "derby" type of atmosphere as in rivalry?

No. One of the main reasons is that 10 years ago Blackpool were in the lowest division of the Football League so the number of times the two sides have played over the last 30 years is minimal.

When Blackpool were in the Championship, the real derby game was Preston - early kickoff, lots of extra police etc etc.

Blackpool are putting on a damn good show. Liverpool are however a hollow shell of what was the finest club side in Europe. Thing is many of their fans are deluded into thinking it is Man U, Chelsea and them for the title. They will do well to finish 10th at this rate.

"Blackpool are putting on a damn good show."

I'm biased but have to agree!

Early days, but after 7 games, 5 of them away from home, not a bad table position at all.

They just need to try and keep it tight at home in the last few minutes. They were 2-1 up against Fulham and they scored the equiliser in extra time and they were 1-1 with Blackburn and they scored in the fourth minute of extra time.

This season could be the first in ages where the promoted sides don't go straight back down. WBA look fairly useful aswell.

Safe to say if your out of form and Blackpool are coming to town
your fair game which is a nice change from what newly promoted sides used to do away from home

Aside from chelsea & arsenal putting 10 goals past them they've now beaten 3 teams(wigan, newcastle, liverpool)away from home..
not shabby results either...2-0,4-0 2-1

I guess there is still loads of time for Blackpool to do a Hull i.e. start off pretty well and then go almost the rest of the season without a win.

What I am hoping for is that the global recession has helped to even things up in the Premier League just a very small bit. Chelsea, Liverpool, Man City, Man United have spent squillions over the last few years, but in the transfer window that has just closed only City really laid out the cash. Obviously the huge spending in these clubs should see the same old teams challenging at the top.

Arsenal are a step apart in the sense that Wenger is a genius in balancing his transfer books whilst still keeping his team in the top four.

So with the majority of clubs in a cash-straightened situation compared to a few years back, I hope that there will be a little more scope for tiny clubs like Blackpool to survive in the top flight.

If that happens, it can only be good for football.
