Sorry is this is a little late but just got back to the UK after 3 weeks away and was only told on my return.
Anyone know the name Johnny Edgecombe?
He was a one time running mate of Peter Rachman and a one time bad-boy friend of Lucky Gordon. This was the guy who fired the shots that saw the end of John Profumo's political career, helped bring down the Conservative Goverment and made Harold Wilson Prime Minister.
He was also a thoroughly nasty piece of work, no RIP's for him.
As a time line for all the youngsters, the Beatles were singing 'Love me do', Bob Dylan was recording 'The times they are a changing' and JFK was sending the second batch of 'advisors' into South Vietnam.
Johnny Edgecombe died.

Never heard of the bloke - sorry mate! Means nowt to me at all. The only one in that list I've heard of is Profumo.

Re: Johnny Edgecombe died.
I think you have talked him up a bit here. He was associated with people who did what you pointed out but was not central to those events. If you watch the film "Scandal", which stars John Hurt as Stephen Ward and Joanne Whalley as Christine Keeler, you see how Edgecombe was associated with the Profumo story.
As I remember he was having an affair with Keeler, who was being pimped by Ward, and he has a rather brutal fight with another of Keeler's bed-partners aswell. There is the scene where he shoots a gun at the door of Stephen Ward's mews house (this is in Wimpole Mews, near Harley Street in central London).
One thing that he can take a bit of credit for was helping introduce posh white Mayfair society to the alternative, rather risque, elements of the new immigrant community of Notting Hill (which in those days was a slum) and to the new things they had brought with them - particularly the smoking of dope - something posh white society has been doing ever since.
I saw Edgecombe on TV a few years ago and he said "we brought fun to this country, we brought partying and life to this country, we brought dope to this country. Before us what did you have? Morris dancing was about it."
