Gordon Bennett! That was a quick reply, took me an hour to get mine together! You must've been hanging on the end of the thread anticipating my comprehensive repost.

Oh well, off to order a Chicken Tika Massala and watch some TV. Catch up with you tomorrow.

No, just angry after all these years. But as this thread proves, we have to stay alert to the possibility of a resurgence of amoral capitalism.
Not capitalism per se, just laisser-faire 'Reaganomics'.......
.....'Reaganomics': from a man who could barely remember his own name (that was BEFORE the Alzheimer's, BTW). Good grief.
Enjoy yer curry.

OK so you were one of the lucky few who prospered under Thatchers regime. Five million unemployed were not so lucky. Are you saying it was thier own fault for being too lazy to become entrepreneurs? The opportunity was not available to most as they had no capital.

You say that the death of heavy industry is OK because other jobs are now available. Tell that to an ex miner/shipbuilder/steelworker who made a good living as a skilled worker and who is now forced to work for a lot less cash driving a taxi or working in a call centre! Thousands of families took a drop in income because skilled manual workers made a lot more money than people in the service industrys or office workers.

The only point I agree with you on is that BKs burgers are definately better than McDonalds :.)

....which is a bit like saying camel shite is superior in taste and texture to zebra dung.
Take half a kilo of good mince, mix with two finely-chopped onions, a clove or teo of crushed garlic (optional), a crumbled slice of fairly-stale bread and one whole egg, and mix with your hands. Season to taste (salt/pepper/Lea & Perrins), form into burgers, fry on medium heat for 4 mins. one side till browned and then 6 mins. on low-ish the other.
A bit of boiling water (or red wine !) to deglaze the pan, and there's your gravy. Fresh rolls, crisp salad and a heavy-combat red like Bardolino, and you're all set.
Yum. Beats the Hell out of mass-produced crap like McDiseased...

To wind down this debate I'll just finish by saying, Magoo I acknowledge your point about call centre jobs vs. skilled trades. But also that I did not have any capital to start with, I was born in a 1950's inner city slum to unambitious parents who, decent though they were, could not see further than the end of the street. As I got older I found this state off affaires totally unacceptable. Why couldn't I drive fast cars like James Bond? Why couldn't I jet off the exotic locations at the drop of a hat, drink champagne and perchance shag a beautiful women? And maybe more importantly, why couldn't I have the respect that seemed to be afforded to successful property owning people? The reason was crystal clear. Because I hadn't made any dough. The solution to this problem then, as now, seemed obvious - I had to get some dough and since there didn?t seem to be much of a long-term future in bank robbery commerce and capitalism seemed the perfect route.

Moving on. Fanny's recipe looks pretty groovy. Reckon I'll dust down the old barbie. Wheyhey!

Officer Dibble ? always an interesting tale to tell.

NO NO NO.......DON'T grill them. That'll take all the moisture out of them, and you won't have the juices and tasty black bits from the pan to play with.
Men....I don't know.......
