Outlook problem - HELP

This morning my Microsoft Outlook would not open and came up with the following error message:

"Cannot start Microsoft Outlook. Unable to display the selected folder or item. Could not open the item. Try again"

Anyone got any idea how I can open outlook and retriever my e mails? Have not backed e mails up or a couple of months and and regretting it right now.

Do a search for .pst files in the search option, these are your backup mail folders, copy them to a new file on your desktop, just call it (mymail), then open outlook, and go to file/import/export choose import, then select messages from a store folder .pst, point the wizard to the mail folder you created, and select all, providing the .pst files are not damaged, they should import your mail back into outlook.

There is sosme guff here if you don't know how to do it..

Thanks Lizard, found the .pst files as you described, unfortunately I cannot open outlook so am unable to import.

Then just re-install ms office, or just the outlook element, you need to uninstall it first, makes it even easier, outlook is part of office, but as long as you have the installation disk, you can either just re-install outlook, or re-install the whole of ms-office, but don't forget to uninstall the old one first. then import your .pst files back in to it, at least you still have them, good luck with it

Gave up and got a pro in, sadly not the kind of pro we all want.

Well done Zorro, shame about the ?100, you could have got bed breakfast blowjob. and evening meal for a week in Hull for that..anyway here's a free usefull programme for backing it up, you can back up and restore with this utility..
