"For once and only once i agree with the govt, something has to be done from letting kids see porn so freely." Yeah make the little sods pay.

But seriously it's a chance for the government to raise a new porn tax at this point for everyone who wants to opt in !shitstorm!

Like a lot of announcements that come out of this government, this appears to be a small step masquerading as a much bigger one.

1. Don't these filters already exist for parents to limit what their kids can access?
2. The use of opt in access is not due to start for a year and will not include all internet providers.
3. It will only affect new users signing up for the first time. Between 70-80% of homes already have internet access.
4. It does not cover all Internet ready devices e.g. playstations etc.

It may well indicate a direction of travel with lots of additional announcements further down the line, but in itself I don't see it as a big deal.

Hang on, I have got this copper banging on my door.......

Once again, sexual hypocrisy stalks the land....(and a useful way of raising
a new Govt tax all in the name of protecting children....
But are the under-12s getting a barrage of soft porn images and sexual
messaging ? Indeed they are. Do they need protecting ? Possibly. Are
half of them watching hard porn ? Bollocks.
But they are constantly bombarded by sex imagery in pop videos on a
constant basis. Ban the music channels to under 12s. It makes about as
much sense.

Opting in allows a way of identifying porn consumers so they can be targeted by the porn industry. Or charged by the ISP's so the money can be passed on to the Government (Pervert tax) and Porn producers !idea!

It is perhaps worth pointing out that this is not just about porn. My understanding is that these Internet provider filters not only allow you to cut out porn, but also violent movies, searches on how to make a bomb etc etc etc.

So I suspect the logic of it being used as a "pervert tax" as Mr Gusset Sniffer suggests, seems unlikely given the filters are aimed at adult material in its widest context.

If they use the same rules as Vodafone do for their mobile broadband quite innocent sites are blocked. Hence many subscribers will want full access not just those who want to access porn so we won't stand out from the crowd .....

Also how will proxy servers be blocked? I had no issues using one until I got the content control on the SIM removed, and that was dead easy. I just walked into a Vodafone store and asked. No questions and no ID requested, two minutes later walked out and the next time I connected I had full access.

It remains to be seen whether these new measures have any effect whatsoever.

Personally I think its a half arsed attempt at saying they did something to protect the children

I think the government doesnt care for porn at all and would rather it not be discussed in parliament so the first politican that has to redeem herself for her husband watching it goes on a crusade and comes up with a plan about an industry she confesses she knows nothing about is always going to be rushed through with a pat on the heinie and "what a jolly good idea, Step to it girl. Problem sorted"

Its far from sorted.

The kids dont even look at the sites and if they do,its only to reference where they can get it filesharing or the tube sites which they seemed to overlook, especially where ATVOD are concerned

To me it just looks like a stealth tax unless they really do something about it. As I see it the government have finally found a way to extort the porn industry in a way that makes them still look clean

I do understand that this is not just aimed at porn. If people want to examine the effects of porn on young children then why not run a poll on adults and ask what their feelings were when they first saw porn?

I remember as a teenager that guys tried to out do each other for seeing the most disgusting porn so they can have a good giggle about how disgusting it was and someone would always come up trumps with Animal Farm

To this day I've never seen the movie and the legendary man fucking a chicken or a woman sucking off a horse and I'm in the porn industry!!!

Having said that, if I did see it now, the shock of it wouldnt be so bad since the description has prepared me for it.

Its all a big hoo-har to make more money by using the Bailey report to legitimise its position and make it legal and ATVOD rode in on that one too.

The only people this really effects are 1000's of teenage and adult porn dabblers and freebie hunters. So i say good riddance to the lot of 'em, all they do is drain our bandwidth and support crooked, cheating tube sites.

Anyone who wants to view and pay for porn will do whatever is required to fulfill their need, as they have always done since the dawn of porn.

Anything that makes porn more difficult to aquire makes it more desirable and more valuable.
