BBC take an axe to the Treehouse

Post by andy at handiwork »

Well I for one will miss what is probably the most original entertainment show on the radio. I've been listening to Danny for many years. To be replaced by the same old homogenised pap you can hear everywhere no doubt. Cancelled by bean-counters who dont even listen to the show. Shame on you, BBC.

Yeah no doubt the 'bean counters' are trying to get the funds topped up to cater for the legal shitstorm thats coming their way due to Jimmy Saville.

Have you not looked at the drop in listeners? This is more likily the reason and Mr Baker cannot bare to think people don't like him

I had to laugh some of the stuff Danny boy has been coming out with.

Such as "I only get ? 300 a show after stoppages for this show".

I like that bit "after stoppages".

Like "I too talented to pay tax".

Well that's going to be a least ? 400 a show before stoppages.

That's what ? 2,000 a week for a five day week. Say you only work 40 weeks a year, that's ? 80,000 a year just for that job.

Not bad. Plus what ever you get for the other work for the BBC, plus the voice overs etc, etc.

There's a clip on the BBC worth listing to....

"I don't care about me, it's my assistants I care about, the BBC are casting them aside onto the dole queue".

I think the BBC should sack him from all work in their employment after that rant.

Very sad news indeed. One of the pleasures of working from home for the last ten years has been having BBC Radio London on in the background and Danny's show was always the highlight. It didn't give a shit, it gloried in being uncool, and at the very least it always made me smile. And uniquely, it connected proudly and fondly to the ghost of this country's popular culture heritage.

The saddest thing isn't the personal loss. It practised and celebrated a very rich and healthy take on life, and a real love of people. The fact that not enough people connected with that is really depressing.
