bbc "news""
tonight consisted of a story about a cpl of lords accepting questions for money, help for heroes march, and angelina jolie....Don't know if anybody has notices, homeless numbers are going through the roof, the NHS is being stretched to breaking point,we have people queueing up for food at food banks in 2013 ffs!!! WHY are the real news stories never being reported??? Could it be that the bbc is just another wing of the tory govt??? Just like Sky??
Re: bbc "news""
Also, to the best of my knowledge none of the news media has been challenged as to why they reported that Drummer Lee Rigby had been beheaded when this wasn't the case. They may have used the 'allegedly' caveat, but nevertheless given the repetition it would tend to be accepted as 'fact'.
Falsehoods are often reported to drive traffic to websites and tv stations. I think it's wrong and newsmedia should explain why it has happened.

Number 6
Not sure if that is totally fair. Unlike the likes of say, Fox News in the States, the BBC has to be seen as an impartial broadcaster and it is what differentiates television from the paper media in the UK.
In things like BBC News broadcasts they tend to concentrate on stuff that is very visual and usually largely incontrovertible e.g.
1. Soldier in Woolwich slaughtered, clearly a horrific event on London streets
2. Videos of dead bodies in Syria although it may be unsure as to which side they were on etc.
3. Video of MP and peer stings which makes them all look as dodgy as hell.
In just 30 minutes of UK, world news, sport and weather the BBC News does not have much time to have an analysis of NHS accident and emergency figures because typically it would involve:
1. VIdeo of A&E somewhere which is not really telling you anything about the general situation.
2. Labour politician stating this is terrible and coming up with a set of statistics.
3. Tory politician stating that this is all Labour's fault and anyway, we, the Tory party are going to put it right with reference to a completely different set of statistics.
4. No time to point out the weaknesses in either's arguments.
Better to watch stuff like Newsnight or the Daily Politics to get more in depth analysis or something like Panorama. To my recall, Newsnight has had more than one session on stuff like the benefit cuts and the impact on homeless, the growth of food banks and NHS A&E pressures.
I have seen Andrew Neil savage many a politician on the Daily Politics from all the main political parties.

How does a falsehood drive people to a website or TV station? Surely you have to have surfed the site or watched the TV station in the first place to "know" it's a falsehood and if you know it's a falsehood wouldn't that put you off that particular station/site/newspaper? If you spend all day on media twitter sites then you will have read whatever it is so no need to go the site. None of the online newspaper sites in this country have published close-up pics of Lee Rigby and most were pixilated in any case. The media reported that he had to be identified by dental records so something certainly happened to his head.

"The BBC are slightly left of Stalin in case you hadn't noticed number 6."
Oh dear..... Bonkers!
"They only advertise their jobs in the leftist toilet paper that is the Guardian....no bias there you honour...."
Oh dear....
The vast majority of BBC jobs are only advertised on their own outlets. I mean, who'd think that a media company would advertise media positions in the only national newspaper with a dedicate media and media jobs section eh?
And who'd think that they'd advertise for jobs in the media in the biggest selling newspaper in the media sector. I mean, talk about logical madness!
And I wonder why the Sun and Sky frequently advertise in the Guardian? It must be because they love the "leftist toilet paper" that is the Guardian.
!wink!

The BBC are accused by both left and right of being biased. What's news to one person is not worthwhile news to another person. I think it's the news editors who decide what stories to put on the news bulletin.

I think the BBC are ok. Their fuck up ratio is about 5% in my mind. I allow room for faults. After all, it is run by humans
The BBC are one of the best, if not THE best broadcasters in the whole wide world!

Agreed.
"The BBC are accused by both left and right of being biased."
That must mean they are getting it about right then don't you think?

They are the best for nature programmes and sport. They USED to be the best for news.
