To say Britain is/ was racist isnt a smart use of the word. there are so many examples of why Britain is not racist. Lets not forget that most nations were enslaved to some other nation at one time or other and it reminds you that we are all shitty to each other at one time or other in history

Bet you dont remember when the Vikings came here or when the Romans changed the whole England forever. The repercussions are still felt today?

Racism and prejudice walk hand in hand but not in general. We live on a lanet of extremes and Britain is the best place on this earth to live despite a few differences we generally can get along

Lets not make the trouble making minority ruin it for the rest of us

If we are talking about the police force then depending on the area you will find there are some cops who take the power of strutting around in a uniform more serious than those who see it as a meaning for doing good.

I dont like generalising when it comes to the police force but I've spoken to a few I know off duty and thats when you have to realise that their job is not just a job Its a way of life because even when they are out of uniform and clocked off people still regard them with the same wariness as if they are still on duty

God knows what Essex Lad is on about given I have made no contribution to this thread.

Nor would I disagree with your statement below OEJ.

"No power on earth did more to advance free trade and free institutions than the British Empire"

Yeah, mind we did make a bit on the side e.g. compare size of UK with size of British Empire.

"The Royal Navy ended the slave trade"

Yeah, mind Liverpool did quite well out of it.

"Gandhi praised the British Empire"

Yep, one of the cruellest things the British ever did was force India to become independent.

"British taxpayers paid ?20million in 1831 (about 27% of GDP) to ensure slaves were freed or given apprenticeships"

Yeah, mind the terminology has changed nowadays, "slaves" are usually referred to as people on the Work Programme and apprenticeships is the term used to describe people who have worked in Tesco for decades but find themselves helping out on the meat counter.

This forum is better than the vast majority of the BBC's comedy output.

Long may it live.

Terry says that Britain is the best place on this earth to live and you agree with him. I said that Britain is the most tolerant country on earth and you and a few others accused me of talking bollocks when Terry and I are expressing virtually identical opinions.

The difference? I'm white and Terry is black and like most socialists you are terrified of being accused of racism if you disagree with someone who's black. You, Johnson, are again like most left-wing ideologues a total hypocrite.

"Its weird I'm not quick to feel you are racist but I do feel you are a xenophobe in your fear of not just black people but anyone who is different to you"

No idea where you're coming from there. I've just pointed out how odd it is that rather than The Voice cover the Royal baby story in the way other papers cover it they are instead banging on about historical issues to do with mistreatment and so on. In my view they should either cover it as a news story and feature the facts of what has occurred and what this might mean for the future, with maybe a political slant on things if they wish (the Daily Mail's coverage of this would be slightly different to The Guardian's coverage of it for example) or not cover it at all. The reason I mentioned The Voice was because, as I said at the top, it was in mind following re-reading things I'd written on the Keith Blakelock thread and I had mentioned it there, so it was in my mind and at that late hour I thought I'd look up their website out of curiousity. I only mentioned The Voice in the other thread because I felt the local TV news would cover the Blakelock thing in a biased way and I suspected the Voice would too.

I've not looked into how The Voice is covering the Blakelock story but if they are a paper who even covers a birth of a Royal baby by littering the article with stuff about slavery and how certain people were called 'George' as a
put-down in the days when black people had no rights and were openly discriminated against, then I imagine a feature about Blakelock would be very obsessed with certain issues, leftfield, and very over the top. Have a look at the four comments posted by people under the original article, I've copied them to the feature at the top, and even those people think The Voice is over-doing it. By the way, a Red Stripe sounds good!
