How many Mutzenbacher?

Post by mark shanon »

it seems like a new one is being released or discovered every day. Apart from the ones numbered from 1 to 6 I count:

Das Lustschloss
Die Hure von Wien
Manche moegens heiss
Die Beichte

and there's another one I'm waiting for. And I'm not counting the soft ones.

Two soft ones from the early seventies, directed by Kurt Nachmann:
?Josefine Mutzenbacher? (1970, JM = Christine Schuberth)
?Josefine Mutzenbacher II - Meine 365 Liebhaber? (1971, Christine Schuberth)

Six in the Herzog series, the first directed by Hans Billian, the rest by Gunter Otto:
?Josefine Mutzenbacher - wie sie wirklich war? (1976, Patricia Rhomberg)
(198?, Carmen Chevalier)

An additional four - or seven - from Hans Billian:
?Die Beichte der Josefine Mutzenbacher? (1979, Jane Iwanoff)
?Aus dem Tagebuch der Josefine Mutzenbacher? (1981, Andrea Werdien)
?Die Hei?en N?chte der Josephine Mutzenbacher? (soft version of the above)
?Das Lustschloss der Josefine Mutzenbacher? (1986, D?sir?e Bernardy)
?Die Liebesschule der Josefine Mutzenbacher? (soft version of the above)
?Josefine Mutzenbacher die Hure von Wien? (1991?, released 2002-03, Vanessa Velvet)
?Josefine Mutzenbacher - Manche m?gen's heiߔ (soft version of the above)

Billian?s soft versions retain the story of the hard ones, but can be quite different, as he shoots special scenes for each version. (in other words, it?s not just cutting out the hardcore sex or panning & scanning from the genitalia to the faces)

One by J?rgen Enz:
?Josefine Mutzenbacher?/?Die amour?sen Erlebnisse der Josefine Mutzenbacher mit Napoleon Bonaparte? (1990, Renate Muhri)
A real curiousity with almost no sex and even less nudity.

Walter Molitor?s ?Intime Kammerspiele? (1993) was named ?Josefine Mutzenbachers vilda kusin? (?J.M?s Wild Cousin?) on its Sweden release. I haven?t seen it, but I doubt any relation. The film has period costumes, and probably tried to cash in of the J.M. populatity.

I have seen yet another one directed by Hans Billian. It was titled Die Erotischen Erlebnissen der Josefine Mutzenbacher. Apart from the fact that it was released in The Netherlands and Belgium on VHS by a company called Arpa and had a runtime of 73 minutes, I don't have any additional information. No cast list or no production year for instance.

In a certain sense, another soft one is
"Auch Fummeln will gelernt sein" (again by Kurt Nachmann), because Christine Schuberth appears again as Josefine Mutzenbacher; however, her character is not at the centre of the film.

The early HC Mutzenbacher films were initially released on 8mm, in shorter version under various titles, and some of these short versions made it to video. An example is "Die Hochzeit der Josefine Mutzenbacher", an excerpt of "Aus dem Tagebuch der J.M.".

It's another excerpt of "Aus dem Tagebuch der J.M.", published by UVG and around 30 minutes long and taken right from the long feature (the part about young country boy Loisl coming to Josefine for advice, and getting lots of it, from both her and her maid. No house doctor is ever seen, though).
