re. pre-posting consideration - one of the upgrades we hope to introduce is a message preview facility, which would afford people a chance to consider their work before despatching it into the ether. an amenity enabling posters to edit even after posting (for a fixed duration) wouldn't go amiss either but that may be further off.
if i didn't acknowledge your previous query, it wasn't intended as a snub but is more a reflection of the grim fact that these things can and do get lost in the mix. i must have made a couple of hundred posts to the forum, for which i felt fully entitled to expect a reply, only to be left hanging in mid-air like a john holmes erection.
it seems inherent in the nature of the medium that thoughtful rather than spontaneous answers often meet the fate of getting pored over, then deferred for further consideration and finally dropped, autumn leaf like, into life's perpetual pending tray... and all without the person listening to the can at the other end of the string, ever being aware that you gave a toss.

Re: o/t Re: Deletion
There is no simple solution really
All computers to have breath testing equipment installed similar to cars would be a good start
My motto is simple...if you wouldn't say it to their face then don't post it....this started about 20 minutes ago
The internet is the only place where all people of all classes are on the same level. Its bound to lead to abuse eventually. Its how to best minimise this potential friction thats the key.
Heres to abuse free posting
cheers

Re: o/t Re: spontaneous reaction
Not sure wether when I reply or what i say but I seem to be in the running for the 'John Holmes' award.
The number of postings where I'm the last man standing seem to number in the hundreds

Re: o/t Re: Deletion
The thing is though Buttsie the verbal abuse was in the deleted flame war between BS and me but these random deletions affect perfectly legitimate and civil posts. You mention verbal abuse. You saw the BS threads before deletion and you will have noticed I used sarcasm not verbal abuse. In fact when I politely thanked BS for his reply that invoked a torrent of abuse from him. Not to mention the email he sent me. I never made personal remarks.
On the subject of breathalizers. I have not had a drink for a week but intend to do so this weekend. The posts deleted this week were sober ones.
I had not even considered the level of irritation that flame wars cause to moderators. Posters to the forum do not have the same perspective as the moderators. I had no idea of the effort it took to remove a thread. WGs random deletion is a deliberate punishment/revenge against people who did not deliberately set out to annoy him. The hassle caused to the mods was due to thoughtlesness rather than malice. But yes it is annoying to be randomly deleted-WGs point has been proven.
PS Dont delete this please-it took ages to think of how phrase it. I will do you a nice custard and beans post later for you to delete.

Re: o/t Re: Deletion
Wether the punishment fits the crime is up to the Mods to decide
After all Punishment is not meant to be enjoyed its meant to
change your behaviour.

You sound like a school teacher Buttsie. Perhaps you could apply to be the forum prefect and help with disciplining us unruly louts. :.)

Re: o/t Re: Deletion
Sorry, I wasn't PC-sophisticated enough to realise that serial deletion was so onerous.
Suppose that's Mr Gates' fault as well.

...sounds like you've been reading Derrida and the Deconstructionists again.
Or the Beano......
I didn't understand Word One of that final para. But I thank you for it.
