I've never got over 44k
56K modems - due to the phone line never reach that max.
Also - I had to rewire my telephone extension - that speeded up my previous connection speed(I must of had a damaged cable twisted pair).

you want to try the 1mb telewest service if you want the ultimate in speed! It is super fast but it do cost ?35 a month.

And its not just one computer. May not apply to everyone here but with a router (cost ?50-100) you can put a terminal in every room in the house and have the whole family online and downloading at 500k, pix, mpegs, mp3 etc at the same time.

And your mum can still get through to you on the phone!

....and now we're back in more (at least to me) familiar territory- I thought mHz/kHz applied to processor-speed, whereas kb/mb/Gb applied to Baud, or download-rate...............?

I can vouch for the normally angrily-termed A-O-helL (AOL) being a very good BB service.
I have had it for 4 months now and pay ?34.99 for my BB plus a free dial-up service too in case of BB difficulties, however, to the normal user, without the dial-up backup, it is just ?25.99/month and IS very good. (500-550 kB/s regular D/l speed)
