I think 'Russian' here is the bugbear; most English-speakers apply the term
willy-nilly to anyone hailing from the erstwhile Soviet Republics- Uighurs, Chechens,
Ingush, Evenk, Bessarabians, true Slavs, the lot.

Russian language has the distinction between Russkiy ("ethnic Russian") and Rossiyskiy ("of Russia"). English does not have such nuances because the toponym England itself refers to an extinct people, i.e. Angles.

I've just recently finished touring Russia, Siberia, Kazakhstan, Kurdistan, Kyrgyzstan - doing shitbag jobs that nobody else wants to - or are qualified to do.
