Whoever wrote the item for Radio Times and the bbc website can't have seen the film. 'Housewife' is about the most inappropriate description of the Emmanuelle character I can think of. In porn terms it conjures up images of MILFs seducing the plumber and Emmanuelle was never seen cleaning the house or doing the washing. The book and the film were much more pretentious than that (and more erotic - with judicious use of fast forward anyway - as was Ms Kristel).

Those people that write up about erotic or porn performers 99% of the time are totally clueless. Erotic movie stars usually refer to them as "porn stars" and an abscure actress who has only shot for web or a handful of movies is referred to as a "porn star". Often they can't even list one porn movie title in their article.
And this is absolutely astonishing in this age of the internet, as with a few Google searches it is fairly easy to reconstruct someone's biography and filmography without making a fool of one self.

I take no responsibility for the inaccuracies of the RT website : -)

I merely wanted to let those unaware people know that this [off-screen] rather
charming and thoughtful woman, in her own small way a trail-blazer in our
mutual field of interest, had left us.
Mention of 'Emmanuelle' is also timely in light of the recent fuss about 'Fifty
Shades of Grey'... at a friend's insistence I managed to read almost a chapter
of this utter drivel before throwing it down. It doesn't stand up remotely well
to 'Story of O' or any other classic of the genre, but it did at least prompt a
most chuckleworthy viral spoof.

I saw EMANUELLE on the big screen at the time. It was rather pompous and vapid, but it was released by Columbia in the USA with an "X" rated rating, which would be unheard of today from a major Hollywood distributor (even these days horror films tend to be released in PG-13, in order to capture a much bigger younger audience. Nobody makes soft-core movies anymore and nobody spends that kind of money in making splashy soft-core movies).
I saw Kristel not too long ago and sadly she had not aged well and looked rather horrible.

Probably after her illness had kicked in.

I haven't read any of it, but I wonder how it compares to the likes of
Lia Anderssen and (the same author under a different pseudonym) Samantha Austen (look them up on amazon) and whether these titles will now be re-released and feature prominently in W. H. Smith branches. From what I've heard about 50 Shades these seem to be 'roughly' in the same genre. In fact, it's been difficult to find 'erotic' novels in the bookshops in the last 15 years which aren't in the same BDSM genre. So re 50 Shades, "Why now?", I ask myself.

"When sexually innocent Danni Bright takes a lift from a stranger, she gets
more than she bargained for. Left alone and naked in an hotel bedroom she
falls into the hands of gangsters, who use her in all sorts of wicked and erotic
ways. Forced to sell her body on the street, bound and whipped by a whore,
made to dance naked.............".
Doesn't take a genius to discern the target-audience: 14-year-old boys : -))

As to why now, who knows? Zeitgeist? I doubt it. Effective promotion by the
publishers? Much more likely than any literary and/or erotic quality inhering in
the tome itself.
