I meant to write:

"It's not like they have people monitoring their every move".

Too bad we cannot edit.

I am not part of the porn industry, and I am not very familiar with the technical workings of the way IAFD/STD tests are administered, nor am I medically qualified to comment on the best, moreaccurateand cheaspest way to administer those tests.
As I understand it at first there was PAW, then around 1998 an organization called AIM was set up by ex-porn performer Sharon Mitchell. It was forced to shut down over a year ago as a result of a number of reasons (Google it and you will acquaint yourself with the details).
Basically a HIV/STD test is valid for about 3 weeks and performers need to exhibit and provide an original of such test to the producer/director in charge of a sex shoot before a performer is allowed to proceed to perform in a scene. The costs for such tests are usually borne by the performer.
Of course, it is well known that adult porn performers do have a social and commercial life outisde of a porn set. They may escort and may have sex with other people outside of the industry. So having unprotected sex with stangers outside of a porn shoot may result in problems for the performer and anyone connected with him/her. You areno doubt well aware of the scandal that erupted this past summer with Mr. Marcus when he tested positive for syphilis and he did admit to continuing to work for a brief while. There were several weeks this past summer when the US and foreign porn industry voluntarily shut down to ensure the situation was quickly brought under control.
