The brutal truth is that there aren't enough people with the requisite knowledge
[and/or interest] that have sufficient spare time to do the job.
If you remember I recently did a 'back-of-the-envelope' calculation based on my
own speed of work. At best I could do 2-3 titles per day, THOROUGHLY. And
to do them 'skimpily' would I feel be an all-round injustice.
The scale of the task is monumental; how many VTO/Seventeen titles are we
missing, for example? Basically you do what you can, when you get the time.
Even just hunting out the scarcer titles down takes hours and hours of work,
before any capping and IDs can be done. Doing just the DBMs properly would
be a lifetime's work on its own......

Re: Rocco Siffredi titles
My last thoughts on this discussion would be this: why waste countless hours trying to reconstruct certain VTO or DBM titles (or similar titles) when time and effort could be better spent on quicker and easier endeavors.
In any event, Walter does not seem to be asking much other than a desire to want to include those titles (if EGAFD mods give him a clear signal). All he wants is a green or red light to either proceed or to stop.

No, no. All I want is the green or the red light. I don't care much either way, as long as I get a clear signal.
I have no "desire to want to include" the titles I was asking about. As I am going through my own database, I can skip them just as easily as I can add them. I am doing the research for my own database anyway and I simply want to know if the resulting data is on topic for EGAFD or not.

For one: because otherwise those films are lost for ever. It's no harder doing
an 80-min. 5-girl VTO than a mammoth 3-hr Rocco with three orgy-scenes, 7
dwarves and a brace of trannies, although the results may be less aesthetically
appealing owing to the age/condition of the material. I'd no more countenance
the passing into oblivion of Michaela Traun or Claudie Sch?fer than Alec would
his 'classic' faves..... put simply: more people are more knowledgeable about
the recent stuff and the media are more robust, so it has a head-start in the
survival stakes. I beat myself up constantly for not writing up my 100+ VTOs
in favour of staying in my comfort-zone with the obscurer output of the late
90s/early 00s.
Hey, I'm only [OK, barely] human : -)

Going through my own database, back to movies I have seen 15-25 years ago, I have experienced the following:
1. Sources -- both primary and secondary -- on movies pre, say, 1985 and post, say, 2000 are often not that hard to find. Besides the boards and fora devoted to the latest of the latest, there are also boards and fora devoted to 'vintage' (by lack of a better word) porn. It's the middle period -- more or less 1985-1999 -- that seems to have fallen off the radar. While even the most obscure 'vintage' porn can often be found on DVD, it really surprised me to find out that lots of titles made between 1985 and 1999 are nowhere to be found. I am not even talking about obscure movies, but some of the better known studios and stars have movies which are not to be found on the net. A studio such as Sin City is a nightmare, but even VCA or Vivid titles can be hard to track down. Especially the era of early 90s porn is in danger of becoming the forgotten era of porn: too early for DVD releases (and hardly anybody offers VHS any more), yet too late to be considered 'classics' worthy of a DVD re-release.
2. It's a truly sobering thought, but I am convinced that that hardly anybody cares about (recent) porn history. The work is difficult not just because of a lack of knowledge, but also because of a lack of interest. When doing research, you tend to run into the same 40 or so people who have done original research. All other sources are copying each other, without much or even any quality control. I have experienced this for years first hand. It's quite disheartening, really.

Re: Rocco Siffredi titles
Re point 1: I think it was the production-line style, the relatively small runs, and
the nature of the medium that disinclined studios against keeping even masters.
Porn is hugely and intriniscally ephemeral; a lot of the stuff is gone for good.
Point 2: yes, but all we can do is try.
