Interesting site, and this is maybe the way the industry is going. However, I don't want to sit in front of a computer screen watching this stuff, I want to be sat in my comfy chair in the lounge. Maybe IPTV will solve that one, providing they don't find a way to ban that as well. What connection do you have with the satellite adult channels, if any? You seemed to be (partially) defending them earlier.
Do you think they are putting their efforts (and money) into IPTV and giving up on satellite TV?

Who cares, I have the worlds first WMV set-top on my desk fresh from Bejing...Its a bit of a task to work as we don't exactly have instructions (well we might get some ideas when my kid drags the bloke from the Chinese restraunt down)
This is a very very big day. OFCOM themselves yesterday agreed it is not licensable because it uses http// to select a channel.. it plugs strait into your broadband and goes to TV.....boys you need to see this work before you miss the boat.

I've done some work with a couple of the channels. I'm no particular fan of any one organisation, but I can see why they don't want to push the boundaries too far. It's not cheap to set up such an operation and while they were all keen to see R18 broadcast being allowed, they're not going to risk their businesses by pushing it too far. Yes, they make overblown claims about their product. That's not unique to the adult industry!

Most of the channels already provide R18 content online, and I'm sure will go to IPTV in time... but it's early days for that and in my experience these things always take longer to take off than us technically-savvy types might hope.

True, but there is a spot of legislation called the Trades Description Act, which prevents most other industries doing it.
Doesn't seem to apply to the porn industry. Probably because everyone's too embarrassed to pursue it, and don't the Adult Channels take advantage.

I saw a print ad recently describing a video as "truly obscene".

The funny thing is, if it is obscene, it'll break the video recordings act, and if it's not, it'll break the trade descriptions act.

lmfao Mark,,,, Its a bit like that.. we got everyone and their Granny comming here because with the box its easy to see how it all works. The reason it will be picked up really quick is the fringe programming alread a Bollywood movie channel has been reserved and Chinnese movie channel. Sky are buying in so they can transmit world wide their own programing. BBC are in one of our reps is meeting Granada today. 200 local channels could be created in months because of the assosiation with Bulldog....The slowest people on the pick up is the adult guys...still with 12 million possible viewers and only a few adult channels on it why should I complain...As for OFCOM in their words its not licensable as its over IP.

The big question is whether the government and/or Ofcom will change their attitude to IP. In fact, Ofcom already regulates Homechoice which operates over a private IP-based network, so there is a precedent.

Homechoice is not over IP..Its cable its pier to pier. and I have it in writing from OFCOM as per the homeoffice act, Delivery over Internet or VOD does not have a license, If fact OFCOM are specifically banned from any from of involement in IP delivery. My box simply connects you to a portal/browser which is an IP address. It is an act of parliment so therfore they cannot change it unless there is a reason,,,well as the world gets encripted porn including most of our European neighbours so hardly see where they could apply to anyone to get it stopped,
