These boxes are already being distributed in the US, but mainly by Telecoms companies and ISP's who want to sell movies/TV to existing customers. Pace has just released the first box to decode via hardware as opposed to software that is retailing at around $100.

Homechoice is ADSL-based. It's their own set-top box and their own streaming protocols, but I think they're IP-based. Regardless, you're right that Ofcom has no remit over Internet-based media. That, however, can be changed if there's the will to do so.

My business is based on streaming hardcore content over the Net, so I want things to stay just as they are... just not sure what will actually happen. I've already heard that Richard Desmond has been pushing for a firm position on this, rather than the grey area that we currently work in.

Can you drop me a line? I'd like to discuss with you further.

Those boxes are not being distributed anywhere, they go on show at IBC, They are MPeg 2/4 not WMV. This means you will need 8meg to make it work. Homechoice are Pier to pier
OFCOM are specifically barred by the home office....The only way to stop IPTV would be to stop the internet, my advice has been don't stream anything which is concidered over R18 and you wont get grief as it will come down to the obscene publications act. The UK goverment has a route to close a web-site down and has recently increased the powers due to terrorism (abillity to force countries to close down pro-terror sites) but no power to stop Cannal + or any of the legal and respected companies transmiting. Last Tuesday the biggest streaming board company in the world called GDB (us) the most advanced company in the IPTV race,
simply give me a call,
www.gdbtv.co.uk is testing site...and I actually have the IPTV reciever here in office, a bit strange as it has no channels on it yet.

Phil, with all my respect, I think you have a problem here, albeit one that certainly could be rectified.

You say that the biggest streaming board company in the world has called your business the most advanced company in the IPTV race. Technically, this may well be correct. But having read your posts and seen your website, I think that your marketing needs to come across as much more professional. This may be why you don't have the clients you expected yet.

There are many items on your web page that look like links but none of them work. The only one that does is 'Request a Password'. So immediately a potential client might become mistrustful. And even if they did work there is no link along the top-line tabs to a FAQ section. As a technophobe myself I have had to look elsewhere on the net to find a non-jargon, clear-English explanation of exactly what IPTV is and how it works. It's all about customer service.

As it stands you may well find lots of people knocking on your door for a demonstration and then find that they bugger off and sign up with another outfit, with a more professional interface, a couple of steps behind you.

All the best with the venture.

Most of the other companies are advertising what they have not got they spent big budgets on advertising promotional materials etc Dave TV comes to mind. We on the other hand have worked on a solution, the marketing of the working tools starts now, many companies are going round and round in circles and the same names get thrown up all the time, all I wanted was a solution for myself well I have it and now I am passing it on, it works thats what matters.
IPTV is so new how can you draw up clear anything only when you have the solution can you put pen to paper,,,the website is designed as a test of my server in Vancouver, the many many professinals who have been talked through it understand it, the fact it does not appeal to punters is great its not ment to. When you can stream Hi-def Quality live from USA to UK as a test and can put a scene being shot live out with interaction from the punter, when you can understand the Multi-cast system and how to do it and the VOD system and how to deliver it at DVD quality, then take it all to OFCOM ect once thats all done you can sell it as working...no one else has done this.
