Advice, Performers etc... Sought By First-Timer

Hi,

I?m looking to shoot a small adult film in the next couple of months and, apart from assisting on a couple of glamour photo-shoots, I?ve no real experience or knowledge of the industry, so I would really appreciate any advice people can give me before I start. I?m probably looking to shoot a single scene (20-30 mins) than a feature-length production, and maybe find an outlet for it on some kind of compilation DVD.

Firstly, what is the going rate to hire female performers? I?ve been quoted anything from ?100 to ?400 an hour by various models and agencies and feel a bit lost by the disparity ? and apparent randomness ? of it all. I?ve only got a small budget so, naturally, I?m looking for the best deal I can get. Also, I would love to hear from performers who are interested in working on the film. As it is my first foray into adult film-making, it may not be quite as smooth and professional an operation as they may be used to but, hey, we all have to learn somehow! If you are interested (and prepared to be patient with a virgin film-maker!), please do drop me a line.

Secondly, are facial cum-shots as vital as they seem to be? It seems nine out of every ten cum-shots tend to in the woman?s mouth and over her face. If I were to vary this a bit (e.g. over her tits, tummy, pussy or ass), or even miss them out altogether, would this be detrimental to the film?

Thirdly, can anyone supply me with a copy of a suitable model release form? I?ve found a few samples from different sources but they vary in content quite dramatically, and neither seems very satisfactory.

Finally, if there are any producers of adult movies who are shooting films in the London/South-East area over the next month or so, would it be possible for me to come along and watch filming take place, ask a few questions etc...? I?d really like to see how an efficient and professional adult film set is run to avoid my making any terrible faux pas.

Any help or advice people can give me would be greatly appreciated. There are a few more things I need help on (i.e. distribution) but I?ll leave those to another time. This message is long enough already!

I've never actually shot anything myself but I would imagine that paying by hour is not the way to go. I mean, a simple B/G scene should take a few hours a least, say half a day so if you're paying some girl ?400/hour you're not doing too well. No one is gonna pay that.

Work out your price and say "shoot pays ?XXX for half a day, tops" and you should be OK. Does anyone actually pay by the hour anymore for video?

Industry standard for a girl girl scene is around ?250, Boy girl is ?300 or a bit more if shes doing anal.

Right, that's 'per scene' though right? not per hour?

A professional shoot takes however long it takes. Time for hair and make up, sometimes there might be 2 girls and this can take up to an hour and a half. Then problems sometimes arise with the guys, or the girls....It can take all day or it can take an hour...It all depends on everyone involved.

I'm facing a similar dilemma. I want to shoot an erotic drama, with a plot (you can laugh if you like). I wouldn't mind helping you out with what I can, however, as it will help me later in my production. I do have some technical equipment also.
