Robster:

This TV channel is covered by the same consumer protection laws and regulations that apply to anything else (legally) on sale in the UK.

They cannot simply point to the small print since consumer legislation applies anyway.

You bought your subscription "sight unseen" over the phone. You have a LEGAL right under the distance selling regulations to cancel your subscription and for any monies paid to be refunded in full.

The TV company can huff and puff but if you point out the legal situation to both themselves and your CC company they will have to comply.

If not threaten them with the small claims court. You have an open and shut case and their lawyers will tell them to settle up.

Using the law to defend your interests is not difficult in such a situation. Remember to point out the law and keep calm.

I just want to add to this Tvx debate. I subscribed to it mainly because the freeview makes it looks so good. There are good looking girls and a good variety of programmes on there. English based stuff. But when they say it gets harder after encryption they are lying. I think I asked a woman when I subscribed whether it was hardcore or not and she said yes. I should've used my brain. I had to have the subscription for a year and give a month's notice in writing. I liked the shows but who wants to see softcore shite?

I know they don't put stuff on your credit card bills, they mark it as something else.
But do they put it down on the sky bills? anyone know they for sure don't?
The girl on the phone said they don't we are completely seperate company, but i'm not sure they tell so many lies.
So someone whos had it in past, tell me they don't put it on sky bills.

Richard Desmond is currently trying to sell all his porn titles (most likely as a result of funding the Labour party to the tune of 100K per year). This may explain why he's so keen on keeping hold of TVX subscriptions, even though the punters are outraged by the lack of real smut on offer. It seems that he suffered a loss on his 'adult titles' last year!
I was under the illusion that porn always makes money, especially if you continue to base your magazines on an archive of pictures that date from the early eighties?
There was a story in the media-guardian section recently, where David 'Diddy' Sullivan piled in, claiming that the Desmond magazine stable is worthless as an ongoing buisness; something about the web destroying the top shelf magazine buisness. Talk about the pot and the kettle, I don't see Sullivan folding his vast range of mags, which he continues to advertise on a constant basis in the 'sport.
