Re: Spice Platinum now 24/7
Anyone care to explain what I might need in order to receive this channel.
I have an old PACE Prima satellite (analog) receiver and an old BSB Squarial in my shed. Are these any use for anything?

I'm afraid we'll only be encrpyting in Irdeto at the present, but i'll let you know if things change.
One of the more knowledgeable forumites should be able to tell you exactly what set up would be needed to pick up Spice Platinum.

No. Spice Platinum is full on hardcore not like the UK based soft shit that Sky subscribers are used to.
To answer the above posters question. You will need an 80cm dish(60cms will do in the south east) and a digital receiver with an irdeto cam. Some receivers have irdeto built in but I would recomend you get one with conditional access slots which allows you to pick and choose cams for any encryption format incase you wish to use other channels which are encrypted in other formats such as viaccess, mediaguard(seca2)or nagravision etc
And the dish needs to point at 13east ie Hotbird sats. A few sat dealers do packages including reciever, dish, subscription and installation. See the ads in What Sattelite mag but dont use a certain Birmingham based company with a double page ad because they are cunts of the first order.

Re: Spice Platinum now 24/7
I was thinking that I could get the equipment for nothing. I used to work in a TV repair shop and still have good contacts within there. Now that Sky dont transmit any UK channels on analogue anymore, these guys are bringing home 2 or 3 old analogue receivers per day from houses where they install SkyDigital. They have heaps of Pace PRD 100s, Prima's and those old Ferguson ones with sloping top and seperate decoder box. As I have never had satellit TV in my life I'm not familiar with encryption techniques. I used to concentrate on repairing video recorders. I repaired many Pace/Hitachi/Philips satellite receivers which were all re-badged Pace models. The power supplies used to blow up, but apart from that I want involved in programming them or anything. Was the Sky encryption called PANDA or something? At one point our shop used to flog decoder boxes which allowed you to get foreign porn channles like Eurotica for free, but they changed the encryption and those boxes no longer worked.
Whats this irdeto cam that you mention? Is it some sort of additional decoder box? Was this irdeto cam commonplace in any particular model that people may have been using just to pick up Sky channels or is it only in receivers that people would only get if they wanted foreign channels? The former type may be among the scrap pile but the latter, less likely.
Finally, you talk about the dish size as if its related to position in uk. I'm way up in the far north, so I'm prepared for you to tell me I have no chance as with most things that southerners get and northerners get a decade later or not at all.
Thanks.

Hi Magoo
Are you referring to a certain company with "Vision" in their name as you would be spot on, they are a bunch of cunts who refused to change a faulty smartcard they had sent me until I paid them a visit all the way from Glasgow with a few mates, just interested.
