Laptop

Right well i now have the software to do my sybian film editing and have decided to get a decent laptop to use rather than my desktop and am looking for a high spec laptop to work with.

I have a budget of approx ?1000.00 and am looking at the moment an Acer Aspire 9504WSMi.

Can anyone recommend a great video editing laptop?

I wouldn't, laptop screens are not that great for visual work, and hard disks are smaller and slower than desktop models. If you don't need the portability then stick with a desktop.

i do video editing on my laptop and personally i do prefer a desktop, for the budget youve got, you could easily get a desktop 10xs more powerful than any laptop you can find. This will make editing so much easier and quicker for you.
If you do decide to go for a laptop tho, make sure its got firewire and usb, the harddrives arent very big on laptops so i recommend getting an external.
I have a acer aspire 1670 and its a bit slow with some editing but we are talking adult stuff which doesnt realy have any complicated edits so it should be fine.
graphics card should be more than 64, definately get more than 512mb. nice screen size always good. hope that helps

its a pretty good machine if your intent on getting a laptop for mobility reasons and it comes in just under your budget.
the screen is a tft crystal monitor so the graphics are top notch.

I agree - you'll always get more bang for your buck (sorry for the Yankism) with a desktop rather than a laptop. You need lots of power for video editing.
