O/T Porn in the media

Post by TopShelfBlue »

Quick quiz for you.

See if you can guess which tabloid newspaper this came from; it's from a report about the hunt for the man wanted in connection with the find of body parts in London (or 'The Ripper' case as the tabloids have been quick to tag it).

'Detectives have played down links with the occult but when they searched his flat after body pieces were discovered they found pornographic magazines.'

Exactly what relevance has the finding of porn mags got to do with this case? Couldn't be the Daily Mail getting on its high horse yet again could it?

Yes indeed it is, the very same Daily Mail that's owned by Associated Newspapers who also print Loot which happily advertises massage parlours and escort services.

When is this hypocrisy going to stop?

Oooooooooooh! Hark at her!

At least they didn't name and shame the magazines. I expect the Gay Pirate's work was involved somewhere along the lines.

How's that massive, ego-shaped hole in the office today? I expect that comment had *nothing* to do with my Christmas greeting to certain staff over the road there!

Ha! I'm just in a bad mood because I'm not going on a 'working trip' to Vegas! Bah bloody humbug!

Still, it's not all bad, Essex is quite nice at this time of year?

Oh, and apparently, you're 'worse off' now what with all that travelling etc. I'm just trying to work out exactly how much (perhaps on a scale of 10 - 20k) worse off you are!!

Better off:
spiritually
mentally
financially

Worse off:
commuting time

That's a few more in the plus column than the minus column, if you ask me!

I think it's fair to say that your plus column far outweighs the minus. I think my minus column would scroll down off the bloody page!

But anyway, doesn't an increase in commuting time = more time away from the wife?!!

I realise you two are having a kind of 'on-line forum discussion' which I don't want to interrupt, but I do want to answer your question.

I do get p*ssed off the way the porn world in general is viewed by the public and the press ..... on the surface anyway. I say on the surface because no matter what anyone says, a high percentage if not the majority of the public are into porn to varying degrees.

It's a known fact something like 80 - 90% of searches on the Internet, (using Google, AltaVista etc), are porn related. 1000's of man hours are lost each year due to employees searching for and distributing porn whilst at work. Massage parlours, saunas or whatever you want to call them are visited mostly by married men and the better ones have a constant, busy stream of customers. The porn industry as a whole is one of the biggest in the world in terms of financial turnover.

Okay, I'll get off my high horse. The point I'm making is a lot of the people, (including those who work for the press), will say how disgusting porn is in any shape or form in public. Then, behind closed doors they're looking at their porn mags, viewing it on the net, getting their wife to dress up as a french maid, schoolgirl, horse, sheep, whatever turns them on etc etc.

Like you say TopShelf, what does this guy having porn have to do with anything?!? If every home that had a collection of porn mags also had a killer in it then there would be 100's of murders in the uk each and every day.

You ask when the hypocrisy will stop. Never I imagine, which is a great shame.

It's all too easy for journalists to grasp hold of the 'porno' angle; particularly if they're from the Daily Mail!

Please do interrupt Always Happy, it's what this forum is here for!

I just get incredibly pissed off with newspapers tut-tutting about porn when they're quite happy (however indirectly) to make money from the sex industry.

And it's not just the tabloids. The Guardian got very stroppy when Richard Desmond took over Express Newspapers, with constant sneering references to 'pornographer Desmond.'

Yet buy the Guardian on a Saturday and take a look inside their listings mag, The Guide - it's full of adverts for sex chat lines!

But as you rightly say, this hypocrisy will never stop.

Britain loves it's "double" standards-makes great reading in the Sunday press..and rapid comments on this Forum.
