Obviously Simon has studio lighting, it would be expected that a pro tog would make a small investment in a travel battery pak to power the studio lighting outdoos. Have seen several other togs shooting the same quality outdoors as in the studio with the same consistency using the same lighting outdoors and believe the battery paks are only the cost of a model hire so should be affordable for all.
Tammy Oldham - fun in the sun
Re: Tammy Oldham - fun in the sun
The top picture works very well. The colours are amazing.
Re: Tammy Oldham - fun in the sun
The jumping & splashing pics were purely a bit of fun at the start of a set.
In hindsight, yes the shots are crap on one respect !surrender!
If only you knew the pissing about I had to do to freeze the action and trade off the overbright conditions while trying not to blow the shot out while still keeping the action, auto settings were out as the were even worse than my attempts.
for the techies out there I had to go to
ISO 500 (biggest trade off to achieve the high aperture & shutter speed)
f15
1/640 shutter.
Yet still I fucked the shots up, but hey I thought they were fun and worthy of including in the set.
That said, it doesn't matter, it's the end result that counts and nobody actually cares about the tech side, which is fair enough, hopefully in the contex of the set they work, as stand alones they are crap, but the rest of the set was to my liking and standards I hope. (normal set pics below)
Regarding using studio lighting, I barely managed to get my normal equipment out there lol, the whole trip was for me to try and get some natural light results and practice (which I admit I needed)
Lessons learnt and the feedbacks brought it into perspective I think.

Re: Tammy Oldham - fun in the sun
Just read through the whole of this thread. What a shame that so much of it was pointless comments about technical issues. Tammy is an absolute babe and always looks great - however the photograph is taken. More importantly, she is a really lovely, decent person and (knowing her) was just having a lot of fun.
Re: Tammy Oldham - fun in the sun
Hey SimonD, bet you can't believe this!
You post technically superb photos and get 4/5 responses.
You post perfectly respectable "fun" photos and were upto 36 and counting!!
My oh my.....there's a lesson for all of us here !laugh!

Re: Tammy Oldham - fun in the sun
These are much more to the SimonD usual standard. Think I understand what you are saying about the fun action ones, can't be easy to do and suppose it's to your credit that you experimented with something different from your norm and full credit for taking the critisism (your work is usually really good, think maybe it was just a shock to the system to see a couple of photos below those usual high standards, when you produce quality then peoples expectations go up I suppose). Got to say you've gone up in my estimation, some people say you can't handle criticism and are self obsessed (me too thought that) but you have proved your qualities expand beyond just taking cracking photographs.

Well, as a photographer I am always jealous of Simon's work.......
