Excellent dvd service

Post by chatterji »

I know reports on them have been varied, but I Ordered some dvds from fivestardvd.com on Friday and they arrived on Monday, all the way from USA! Pretty, darned impressive, although the freebies I got with the order were crap (aren't they always?)Quite good selection of stuff with Brit girls too.

OT Advice Please (Re: Excellent dvd service)

The DVD's I got from them only play in B&W. There not faulty, as they play perfectly well on the computer. I'm assuming it must be a problem trying to play them through a Playstation2 (via scart). Anybody know how to cure it? Do I need a "proper" dvd player?

Peter, this may not give an answer to your specific problem,
but it's a damn thorough overview of all things dvd.

American colour system is NTSC. Ours is PAL. DVDs bought from america will be in thier NTSC system. Playstation 2 converts NTSC to Psuedo-PAL which is similar to our PAL system so that most up to date TVs can cope with it and still show it in colour. If you are using an older TV set, or a cheap one (Bush or Alba are known examples to show the problem) then chances are it wont be able to cope with the slight difference between Pseuso-PAL and real PAL. Its nto entirely Playstation 2's fault, and I'm sure that if you hooked it up to a brand new, good TV, it would show in colour. You either need to update your TV set, or get a DVD player that converts NTSC into TRUE PAL that your TV will be happy with. Surprisingly there are not that many DVD players that do convert NTSC to TRUE PAL. The ones that do tend to be cheapish ones. JVC ones do for sure and I think LG do too. Your regular makes liek Philips, Sony, Panasonic, Toshiba etc all output Pseudo-PAL so will give the same problem as the PS2 for you.

Hope that helps. (I worked 3 years in a TV shop)
