I just received an email from an agency looking for models to work during a Model Expo. It says it is well paid and when i asked for more info this is what i received - just wondered if anyone had worked for them before cos to me something smells fishy:

Seems to me that they want YOU to pay ?300 up front that they will reimburse you on the day!!!

The ?300 fee which is allegedly returnable is a guarantee against non-attendance, and yet if Giorgio Armani is present and the event is being sold as some kind of 'foot in the door' in terms of networking, then any serious and ambitious model would be there out of professional interest. She wouldn't need to pay ?300 to guarantee it.

This isn't the way fashion companies such as Armani would cast. They use celebrities and agencies. I doubt very much that Armani will be present, and if he was why the caution on the organiser's part. Wouldn't you publicize this ? Wouldn't Armani expect you to publicize this ?

They're trying to hit a 'catch-all' market of film/tv/fashion etc but aren'tthese markets differentiated? Personally, I wouldn't part with ?300 for something which lacks transparency and credibility.

It's a scam - pure and simple. Keep your ?300 in your purse.

My advice is to pester them with e-mails demanding ?300 for services rendered. Play the twats at their own game, go on,really annoy them.

All the junk mail that comes through my letterbox(if there is an paid envelope in the mail) gets returned to the addresse along with any pizza or kebab leaflet that comes through my door. If the mail is from a credit company I make sure the mail I send back is as heavy as possible.

I'm getting really sick of these scams! Yesterday I had 4 all along the same lines of "you pay us this money and then we pay you when you've done this job" I'm kind of insulted that they expect us to fall for it! That and the fact its adding to the increasing number of junk mail thats jammin up my inbox!
I mean c'mon guys if I was gonna scam someone I'd make a far better job of it than a lame story mixed in with second rate english....
I guess the best we can do is report it when it does happen?
