You'll probably find that if you start your own site and

pay for a server,
pay the billing company's percentage,
pay for password protection software,
pay affiliates and/or do all the work necessary to get traffic

that the 30% that Adultwork take isn't so bad

How much are you grossing?

30% of ?300pm is fine.
30% of ?3000pm isn't.

My take - ask here for a designer to quote for a full paysite build, on a dedicated server with a CMS that you can then use to manage all the content.

Compare that to whatever your 30% is in cash terms.

PLUS think about marketing issues - does AW also deliver you traffic, or do you drive that yourself?

Hey Rico...

Alas as a pay site owner I can tell you there is no great way to do it... regardless of how much your grossing really...

Firstly which ever company you bill through, lets say CCbill... you will have to pay 17% to them, they also take a chargeback fee of 5% to guard against fraud, admidely after the first 6 months this them becomes a rolling fee, meaning in month 7 you get month ones chargeback fee... you are always in effect 6 months in credit...

The cost of the server if you host somewhere in the US will proberly be between $200-$400 depending how good a machine and bandwidth you need... I would suggest a dedicated managed service, not a shared machine...

There would be other costs such as the initial site build... I have several really good designers who work for us, and can do a kick ass design for about $600 look at www.takehercherry.com even though I understand with your amature style you might want somethign a little more to fit that feel

You will also need a CMS there are some free ones out there, I know one or two people on here use them, it's up to you but I like the funcionality of SiteDepth but then thats the only one I ever used...

Seriously there are 4 or 5 people I have seen on here who run similar amateur sites... you seriously all need to get together and create a joint programme... would be in all your interest to do

You could all share the costs of the server, cms, design and programmign of a cash programem to promote your individual sites... plus combined your gross money would be higher, and all billing companies offer a discount on there % for the more revenue you bring in, think you can take it down from 17% to 14%

You only going to save about 5-10% doing it all yourself, if your driving your own traffic and good at marketting then go yourself.

However as mentioned earlier 5-10% of 300 a month isnt worth the hassle, but 5-10% of 3000 a month becomes worth it.

Remember if you let the audience adult work has go, you have to spend many many many hours on forums promoting your site to get traffic.
