Australia is a big country, so it will depend on where your partner is going to be working. And there is no way that once you are based in one city you can take jobs in other cities without flying and staying overnight. For instance, Sydney to Melbourne is a 13 hour drive and a 1 hour flight, while Brisbane to Sydney is about a 12 hour drive and again an hour flight. Like I said, the distances are vast.
