Capturing HD Video --Help Please (NEWBIE)

OK I am trying to capture some HD video off my new Sony HDV Z5E camera... I have a trial version of Vegas Pro 9... I plugged it all in and started to capture... But when the files ended up on my computer they are .m2t files ??? I was expecting MPEG2 files

Am I doing something wrong ? Help please...

Thanks mate but not trying to create a DVD... I am re selling content I have shot, and just need to be able to send the content out to clients... at the moment the video is saving as m2t and I thought it was suppose to be mpg...

I can change it by just changing the extension from m2t to mgp... just not sure thats what I am suppose to be doing

M2TS is just a different container, the video inside will be MPEG2.

ok someone suggested i just rename it... as in the extension... did that and it seems to have worked fine, do people think this is ok to do ?
