Sussex locations for outdoor shoot - Help Please

Post by sparky »

I have made a booking with a model who responded to my post seeking models.

I am now asking for advice about good secluded locations in the Brighton / Eastbourne / Worthing area or indeed places to avoid e.g. dogging locations, areas used as training grounds etc.

Would any of these be good places to head to -
Friston Forest and Seven Sisters Country Park west of Eastbourne
Woods / nature reserve north-west of Polegate
Arlington Reservoir
The fields at the sides of the lanes off the A27 between Lewes and Polegate
The area off the A23/A272 west of Haywards Heath

Some beach shots would be great but are there any possible quiet locations?
Could it be worth heading to Normans Bay between Eastbourne and Bexhill or would it be just a waste of time?

Any details direct to my email (in my profile) or posted here will be greatly appreciated.

Some good tips there, thanks !thumbsup! !grin!

Seriously though, I suggest you just visit them at the time of day you plan to shoot and see how busy they are.

Just outside of your area but still in East Susses is a place that i have used a lot over the years for outdoor shoots Fairlight Cove naturist beach, to get to the beach you have to walk down through a large country park which has some secluded spots where you can shoot including a waterfall and once you get to the beach you can walk further along to get away from people if you are shooting hard material or you can shoot on the main beach if its only nude stuff, the shoreline has a bit of everything ie:sand, pebbles and plenty of rocks and there are lots of little nookey places you can hide in and as this is a naturist beach then of course nudity isnt a problem, but a word of warning it is all downhill getting there but of course all uphill getting back so both yourself and the model/s would need to be reasonably fit !wink!

Sorry if these look like an advert for Health and Efficiency magazine (not a stocking top in sight !sad! ) but after my shoot with Richard last September I nipped up to Devils Dyke and Brighton Beach

Taken on a week-day, late afternoon in Sept.
- Devil's Dyke not too busy, reasonably easy to find a secluded spot uninterrupted for 15-20 mins
- Brighton nudist beach - some 'observers' who kept their distance and then came across after I was dressed to comment that I had made their evening

Hope this helps?

If I get chance I will have a look at places in advance.
However I omitted to say I am not local so depending on the day of the shoot I may not have the opportunity hence my request for advice.

Thanks for the suggestion of Fairlight Cove, I can discuss with the model.

Roughly how long to walk from car park down to / back from quieter naturist part of naturist beach?

Hopefully it will be a decent day and if so other people likely to down there and I certainly do not want to upset people filming on a naturist beach.
I had always understood it was bad etiquette to take photos let alone video.

Sally great photos and thank you for your suggestions.

Assuming a decent day there are likely to be more people on the naturist part of Brighton Beach, unlike when you were there.
As I have just posted I had always understood it was bad etiquette to take photos let alone video if others around since even if the photo is framed to show nobody else they are not to know that.

Devil's Dyke looks very scenic and a good place to try.

Hi Sparky, it is about 15 minutes walk to get to the naturist beach at Fairlight from the nearest car park, once you get to the beach turn to thr left and walk away from the main sunbathing area until you find a place private enough to shoot, weekdays are best as its quieter, when shooting the model just make sure there is no one else in the background and you shouldnt have a problem, i have done numerous shoots at this location without any problems and lots of people take photos on the naturist beach just respect other peoples privacy, you would need to take drinking water with you and the model should wear flat shoes/trainers for the walk and you would need to check the tides as a good portion of the beach is cut off at high tide, i prefer low tide as there are loads of colourfull rocks exposed which make for a great backdrop, a slightly overcast day is better than bright sunlight because of the glare from the rocks and shadows and remember not to shoot into the sun, travel as light as possible because of the uphill walk back to the car park, if you need any directions please let me know !happy!

we shot Jamie Brooks up on Devils Dyke, (mainly in car because it was cold and windy) It does get quite busy up there with people coming and going So we used someone as a look out to warn of anyone coming into the car park we were in. You can see a trailer from that scene on uknymphos
